I too have the 6 inch and love it but I'm with the rest of them, get yourself an SP 101 3 inch and you'll enjoy it just as much. I would also like the 4 inch gp someday but I wouldn't trade my 6 inch to do it. Good shooting

Thanks for the replies everyone, well gang... I think I'm going to be hanging on to my 6" for a while. It just does feel right to me... I thought at first a 4" gun would be better for my needs but after mulling over it and reading this thread, I really think my gun is just fine for what I need it to do. Really the only problem I have with it is car carry, as I don't have a large car. There is a rather small space between the driver's seat and the center console, that I think I could fit a holster in between.

I really appreciate my 6" gun for it's power and accuracy. It is somewhat heavy, but today just for the fun of it I wore it loaded in a holster with two loaded speed loaders in a pouch just to see how much the weight would bother me. I've worn this setup for plinking purposes but for not much longer than 30 min. at a time. This time I wore it for about two hours, and in all honestly the weight wasn't an issue at all. In fact I think I started to get used to it and it didn't feel like anything was there at all. I'm sure wearing this all day would get tiresome, but I'm confident the gun and its ammo won't get too heavy if I ever wanted to open carry. It is not ideal to sit down in though, but that's not really a huge deal as I'm going to be looking into the center console holster thing for car carry. (BTW I would love to hear some ideas for car carry if this isn't a good one)

So I think I'm going to hang on to this sweet baby, at least for the foreseeable future. Maybe some day a 4" GP-100 will be it's little brother, but I just shoot this gun too well to let it go.

I really like odd numbers for barrel lengths: 3" for a carry gun and 5" for fun shooting or targets. I had a really nice 686-1 6" that I sold recently just because the balance of the 6" full underlug didn't suit me.

Everybody has different preferences. I've determined that my preferences stop at 5" on L frame or smaller guns, and that I prefer partially shrouded guns over their muzzle heavy counterparts. I have a limited run S&W model 29 that came with an unfluted cylinder and a 5" full under lug barrel and that combination works for me in the larger N frame, yet a barrel just an inch longer on an L frame was too front heavy. I guess I must have a very narrow tolerance range.

So my point is the same one that some others have said: save up and buy yourself a 4" gun. If you like it much batter you can sell the 6" outright and be better off vs. trading anyway. If not then you can get rid of the 4". Or you can do what usually happens and keep them both!
