Seems that trading for me always works out better than selling. Especially handguns, since my shipping cost is prohibitive and shipping through my LGS is a pain. No low ball offers, no commissions if sold through Gunbroker.

Here is one of my latest series of trades (over the course of a few years):

Glock 27, traded for

Kahr PM9, which in turn was traded for a

Ruger SP101 2.25 inch barrel (plus $ to me) which in turn was traded for a

Henry Golden Boy (new / unfired).

By far, the Henry is the most beautiful of all the guns. I "think" the Henry is a keeper.

Anyone else want to share a trade story?

I had two guns I was in the market of selling just a few weeks ago. Nothing earth shattering rare or special, just 2 firearms that retail for $300 each that I was being offered $150 each for. Sold one of them for the cash and traded the other for a Benchmade Adamas Auto. No remorse on this end.

I traded a 10 22 and a knock off 870 clone for the xds 45 last year when the demand in my area was still high I'm very happy.

I rarely trade up. It just seems to happen that way. However, I have had two memorable trades that were in my favor. They were both advertising for exact items I happened to have and did not want anymore, and they had items I happened to want. Couldn't say no.

I like trading, and have been pretty happy with deals made in the past, but I find it difficult to do. I'm usually looking to get rid of something a bit unusual and looking for something equally esoteric - it's hard to find a person who both wants what I have and is willing to part with something I want.

Last trade deal I made was a pretty rough Mexican M1910 Mauser for a Hungarian M95 carbine. I was probably on the lower end of that deal money-wise, but the Hungarian version of the M95 is pretty hard to find.

Best trade ever was giving a Beta-C AR mag and getting a Romanian AK, six stick mags, a drum, and a 1000-round case of ammo. :D

I started with a S&W 442 I paid $380 for. Traded straight across for a S&W Brazilian contract Model 1917. Traded that straight across for a WASR 10/63 AK-47, which was traded straight across for a Weatherby Vanguard S2 in .223. The road ends there.

I have made some trades that I felt I came out ahead. I would rather trade than sell, since I have gotten more value in the past in trades than selling outright.

trading is downright fun if not too serious

Since I like to shoot various guns that appeal to me from my own history or general history, and cannot afford to always buy outright , trading is how best to afford opportunities to shoot a variety of guns without new money always coming into play. I like to find someone similar who is not out to make a living in trading. My best trading comes from meeting people like that where the value of each gun not so important as each person trying something new. Sometimes there might be a 2 for 1, or 3 for 2 to make change so to speak. Usually the trades are 1 for 1. I have had some neat trades. Once there was an original 45-70 trap door spring field for a Leica rifle scope - crossing a century of time.
