Anybody had one of the tradition Shenandoah flintlock I found a new from tradition in their bent and dent inventory and its on sale so they say been a kind of thinking about it but I'm not sure. Just wondering if anybody had one and what are they like

I've only had mine out once since buying it. Seemed to work okay... I had a number of "flash in the pans" where the main charge wouldn't ignite. I was using real BP so that wasn't the problem. I think that the problem was lack of experience on my part, because a nice custom flintlock that I had bought at the same time acted similarly.

Brushhippie,
I am interested in knowing how to harden a frizzen. Could you point me to a link to an article on how that is done?

I just heated it up to glowing red and quenched it in water twice...worked well for me and still sparkin like mad!

I bought a new .50 caliber flintlock Traditions Shenandoah (33½ inch barrel) about 5 years or so ago and the only "problem" I had with it was that darned high comb on the stock (called by some a "Roman Nose stock") that wouldn't allow me to get my cheek all the way down on the stock far enough to properly align the sights using a normal and comfortable "hold" on the rifle.

Eventually, a wood rasp, several different grits of sandpaper and a bit of wood stain later, the "Roman nose" (high comb) is gone and the rifle is a joy to shoot... and is very accurate at 50 yards using 47 grains of Swiss FFFg behind a Hornady swagged, patched ball for "paper-punching" off a bench-rest using sandbags and a solid rifle rest.

The rifle is more accurate than I am... and it's really a nice looking rifle now and usually "piles" shot-after-shot on top of one another at 50 yards. :)

Strength & Honor...
