New job, new paycheck, new schedule, new free time. I'm looking for training schools and courses in the DC area (DC proper, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania.)

Two I already know of: Storm Mountain and Com-Tac. Anyone know of any others?

the NRA Headquarters range, downside is most classes start at 6 or 7 and you have to fight rush hour. In the Tactical Rifle class I took in May, 4 out of 12 people were from Maryland

Blackwater's just over the VA border into NC (like 3-4 min over). They have great facilities and good instructors.

Headquarters in Germantown, but the range is at Warrior Ridge in Pa. Take I70 to Hancock, then I68 to Flintstone(twenty or so miles), then north into Pa. Classroom is in a barn and the ranges are a short distance away. Chuck Davis is a first class instructor. He got inside all of our heads before the day was over.

Check out Crucible Security in Fredericksburg, Virginia. It's ran by Kelly McCann (AKA Jim Grover). You may have seen him on CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News after Sept. 11th as a security analyst. McCann also has some quality training books and videos out too.

Crucible has a web site, www.cruciblesecurity.com. There are three courses listed as open enrollment. They are Virginia Concealed Carry Weapon Course, Sudden Violence Course, and Individual Protective Measures Course.

From what I gathered when reading about the VA Concealed Carry Course, Crucible actually offers a lot more in the training than what you would get from the run of the mill VA Concealed Carry Instructor.

There's a guy that runs various national instructors through a gun range near pittsburgh ~4-5 hrs away. I've taken 2 pistol courese from Giles Stock (ex swat, gunsite etc etc) and a carbine course and all were excellant, fun and a good value dollars wise. Here's a link to the yahoo group where you should be able to get signed up for the mailing list PGH yahoo group

Gunfyter,
See you at COMTAC in September. I'll be taking TP-100 on the 12th,and TP-200 on the 13th & 14th. Looking forward to it.:D

A few questions,
Of course I'm bringing caps, raingear, small medical kit, kneepads, elbow pads, etc. From your experience before, anything else I'll need?

I'm bringing my duty holster. Or should I bring a OWB holster? I'm comfortable with both.

I have reservations at the Best Western Bedford Inn. Anything better?

From my experience, good ear protection, several mags or speedloaders, a good holster(your preference), glasses, sunscreen and clothing based on the weather is what you'll need. Bedford is a neat little town. I worked there for about a year and a half. It's a typical turnpike town with motels, restaurants and gift shops. Since you're bringing a duty holster, I'm making the assumption that you are a LEO or are associated with law enfrocement in some manner. For TP100 we all used Fobus holsters and mag carriers. We didn't need or use elbow or knee pads. My brother and I both will be shooting handloads rather than factory ammo. Any other ????, fire away.

No, not a officer at all,but we do train LEO's,SPO's and folks who are either applying for CCW or are renewing their CCW Credentials,so sometimes a duty holster is what we use.I'm slowly working toward my credentials for Maryland certified firearms instructor, so I'm looking forward to getting experience from COMTAC also.
Thanks for the reply, see you in September.

I'm already familar with the draconian requirements as shown. I was hoping(wishful thinking) that all of this training might carry some weight if I decided to try and get CCW again. I had it once when I owned a business but had to turn it in when we sold out. Maybe our new Governor might have a change of heart.

Hey i just signed up for the andy's class today!
