Minnesota state law says. [QUOTE(e) to transport a pistol in a motor vehicle, snowmobile or boat if the pistol is unloaded, contained in a closed and fastened case, gunbox, or securely tied package.[/QUOTE] Is it legal to have the pistol unloaded inside a hard gun case with it's loaded magazines inside next to the pistol? Would I have to unload the magazines, or put them in a seperate container for it to be legal? It is easiest and safest for the magazines to be in the hard case IMHO. This would all be in the trunk of my car BTW.

Second question: How do you go about transporting a pistol on a motorcycle? I have a small lockable hard gun case, but it would have to go inside of a backpack. I could put it's key inside the bike's air box. I can not get into the airbox while riding, it works like a trunk, sort of. Then I could put the magazines and ammo in another section of the backpack, the magazines could be in their own soft case. Is that legal?

Not a lawyer, and not a MN resident, but check the state law's definition of 'pistol' and 'loaded.' Here in california 'loaded' pretty much means 'ammunition touching any part of the weapon.' Thus a loaded magazine = loaded weapon here in Kali. Hope you get a solid answer here (if not there's always www.packing.org)

As far as carrying on your bike, here's my concern. With the gun in a backpack, on your back, could you be charged with carrying a concealed weapon? Just like if you were walking around town with a gun in your backpack. (assuming you don't have a carry permit).

Might be better to put the gun somewhere on the bike itself. Saddlebags or tank bag?

I guess I could get a tiny padded case to mount on the bike. I will keep mags seperate just to be safe when in the car. I will also get my ccw soon so it will not be a concern. Thank you for the advice.
