I need to spend about a month in small town New York visiting family. I have a Florida CWP so I can legally carry on the entire trip to NY but from what I've read I'm out of luck once I hit the state line ... Would any of y'all have any suggestions re. how I can park my handgun at the state line ?

Can I travel w/ a loaded rifle in my veh. from my home in Florida into New York and leave it in my truck while in NY ? I will be in upstate NY, nowhere near NYC ?

To make matters just a little more difficult, I will be traveling in my truck which does not have an extended cab and no cover on the back ... :what:

I appreciate any insights y'all care to share ... :)

leave the hand gun home!! the rifle can not be loaded in a veh or on a veh of any type. Don't even rest a load veh against a tire on your veh. as explaind to me REsidence w/ a valid pistol permit can not even handle a pistol belong to someone else w/ a valid permit. A friend has both his and his wifes pistols listed on his permit so he can shot them. I am not 100% on this but if you have a valid permit for your state you can bring the gun in if you are going to a shoot. up until a while a go a non resident LEO could not even bring a handgun into the state.

No pistol, not in NJ either. See if a gunshop in PA will hold it for you. No guarantees though, so either call PA shop in advance or don't take it.

Rifle unloaded in a case, stick it behind the seat..

As previous poster mentioned, leaning a loaded long gun against a vehicle is a no no, considered loaded gun in vehicle.

As I understand the shipping of firearms, you could ship the firearm to your home or another address in care of yourself as long as the person receiving it doesn't open the box.

Shipping a firearm to yourself is OK.

Carry to close to the NY state line, find a shipping place, and send it home.

That's if you can't avoid a trip to NY.
