What handgun would you take with you?
Where would you go?
What firearms would you collect as souvineirs?

Something for the history buff in all of us!!

Me? A customized 1911, 5 Wilson mags, and extra 50-100 rounds. A photographers style vest with various survival goodies...with kevlar pannels, a digital camera and recorder, Surefire and spare lamp/batteries. Pepper spray and a stun grenade might come in handy. The weapon is for defense only!

Where? Ohh, a rich field to explore..... unlimited in imagination!!

Time travel takes many forms.

Ok I'd take a simple concealable pistol with a big punch, like a 357 snubby (you can hide it under your robes or whatever).

I'd want to meet Sam Colt, pick up a Patterson, a Walker, and a Navy. later, hang out with Buffalo Bill, pick up an engraved 1878 DA Colt, a Lightning rifle, perhaps a Borchardt (sp?) auto. A c-96 of course. wait, how about Blackbeard's Queen Anne pistol?

You know what I'd really like to see.. who were the folks living at Qumron(where the found the dead sea scrolls).. maybe a chat with Lenin while he was an expatriot, and a visit with some of my favorite artists: Malevich, Vrubel, Schiele, Klimt, El Lissitsky, Kuniyoshi, Delacroix. Let's face it folks, one of their paintings could buy you a mountain of pistols.

I would take my S&W 13 3" with a moonclip conversion.
I would also take a 36 caliber flintlock derringer.


I would ask George Luger to make me a few 45 cal parabellums and pick up a Walker colt and a Patterson.

I would like to watch Ankor Wat being built.

Then visit Adam and have a nice chat with my buddy Jesus
 
My first reaction would be to grab something with high capacity like a Para P13, but after a little reflection, I think I'd just go with a S&W 625 and a goodly supply of loaded moonies. Simple, reliable, effective.

Where to go? Wouldn't mind seeing the Pyramids when they still had that new shine to them; the colonies around 1776, when they were becoming ex-colonies; Gettysburg - both the battle and the speech; the Armada cruising up the English Channel; so many possibilities....................

A couple of matched Colts would make a nice souvenir - any ol' model would do.
 
I'm sure we could all come up with some incredible fantasy; but would your effects have any effects on my journey??????:confused:

Probably 1940's China and knock off a bunch of Imperialist Japanese with my M1A :D
OK never mind fast forward to the early 1980s and score a bunch of HK91s, HK93s and boatloads of Beretta magazines.
 
I would go back in time and trade some Native Americans some steel barstock for gold. Then return to 1985 and give some of that gold to my dad. He could then buy a bunch of pre-ban MG's and put them away for me.
Then I would return to the present with the rest of my loot and buy a small country. I would take all my FA guns there and open up a national shooting range.
You bring the ammo, I have the guns.:evil:
 
If it were real time travel, you'd want to do everything possible from having to shoot anybody... or you'd return home to a different world, or not return home at all (person killed was related to you). Having to shoot some overbaring Roman prefect hellbent on getting my "thunder rod" and finding he was related to Roosevelt or Gen. Washington would cause me serious worries.
Of course, time travel is impossible and that's a good thing. ;)

If it were a holographic type of time travel, I believe my FAL and Kimber 1911 would do just fine.

Oh yeah, and I'd choose Ancient Rome during its auspicious Pax Romana... particularly during the comparatively long and peaceful rule of Augustus (AKA Octavian) or Tiberius.
Maybe visit Alexandria, Egypt while I'm there.
 
I do agree with Snowdog! The objective is curiosity, to explore and record...and snag a impliment for the personal collection...and even that may alter things?
To go back to engage in the sport of slaughter...welll, that undoubtedly will alter something, somewhere.....and no one can say what those results could be!!
Perhaps one of those calvarymen with Custer survived, fathered a child that became President in the 1930's and kept us all out of WW II, would we be speaking German now? Or the Imperial Japanese man sniped by an M1A was the brother of a man who went ahead and launched just one more biological balloon...and it landed in the heart of LA in rush hour?
The variables are endless....and have little to do with guns!!
I was just playing with an idea!
And time travel is (currently) impossible(that we are aware of anyway!). And apparently that is REAL good!!!

I would load up my Kimber with 230 grain Winchester JHP's,set my time mchine for 1930 Germany, track down Adolph Hitler, and splatter his brians all over the woodwork. Then I would do the same for Joseph Stalin.
 
I often wonder if the horrid subjugation of Jews during WWII helped usher along the formation of the state of Israel, perhaps even resulted in the formation of it.
Seems the repercussions of that great diaspora at the very least served the expediency of this historical process.
That cosmic jigsaw puzzle of cause and effect are quite possibly too complex for any of us mortals to fully understand.

While guarding a lovely tropical island 600 miles from soviet airspace for a year, call ADAK...I had the opportunity to read ALOT about Israel(someone stocked the library with about 15 books), including the time before Hitler. The European Jews had no interests in giving up their luxury to go claim a sand pit that the British more or less said they could have part of!!
Offing Hitler would affect that......he may qualify as an 'off-able' man, but at what cost? Do not know what result would happen if Hitler or that nasty waste of genetic material Stalin would be removed suddenly from our known timeline, but I am sure the world we returned to would be very different.
Even going back to save a famous American(Lincoln and Kennedy come to mind)...?? Observing, yes...recreating the world in out image...not a good idea!! We do not have all the information necessary to figure out the results our actions would cause.
Ahh, but a trip to 1911....to meet JMB as the 'Colt' pistol was accepted and adopted(order a couple from Colt with maxed out engraving commemorating the birth of America's Pistol, and shoot order several other models of Colts too, SAA's, New Service's,...pick them up later at the factory). Whadda picture to hang on the wall, huh? That is Jonathan Moses Browning and Me taken when the 1911 was adopted, over here....I was hanging out with a dude we call Buddha......etc!
A long chat with Nikolai Telsa, Albert Einstien about the nature of time would no doubt prove enlightening.

Even the most innocent act....

could propell the world into a diiferent direction.

Suppose you were simply waliking out of a building in a town in the past, and you stepped in front of a guy and he had to pause to let you pass. In doing this he did not see the woman on the other side of the street that in real time history was the woman that he was to marry. Therefore, no Abraham Lincoln, or Alber Einstein or J.M. Browning or whomever or maybe YOU !

You don't need to kill someone to interrupt history.

There was an old TV show about going back to hunt dinosaurs. The 'company' that did this went back in time to find a time and place where a dinosaur was normally about to die. They would then sell a hunting trip to someone who would go back to that precise time and shoot the dino just as it was about to die anyway. That way history would not be changed. The hunter even had to remove the lead slug so as not to affect something else. On on trip back, a hunter stepped on a bug and squashed it. When he returned to the present, all of the people looked like reptiles !

Seems that squashed bug was meant to be food for some other animal and since it wasn't, the animal either died or ate something else (I forgot which) which disrupted the whole animal/bug food chain and evolution during the next cuppla million years resulting in humans evolving differently.

Time travel is a VERY interesting concept.
 
I take a quote from Star Trek Deep Space Nine supplied to us by Chief Miles O'Brien (and everyone repeat after me): "I hate Temperal Mechanics." Good.

Supposing I could do it without interupting the timeline, I would probably go back and chat with all the intellectual greats of the various eras. I would like to go back to 1776-ish with a scoped accurized Rem700 in .308 or .30-06 and start offing redcoats from 500 yards. Wouldnt know what hit them.

I just want to know 3 things:
1. Where would I get the Uranium to power the Flux Capacitor? (besides a shady deal with Iranian terrorists).
2. How do I get my DeLorean to have lightening shoot off of it when I get it up to 88MPH?
3. Just in case, how hard is it to harness 1.21 Gigawatts of energy?
 
Allow me to postulate an equally vulnerable theory for working our fantasies: That exiting the "visited" time frame wipes any effect the "visitor" produces while there. As long as we leave that time, we have no enduring effects on the present reality.
Now, that being the case, we could go anywhere, and do anything, without altering "true" reality. NOW what are your dreams?:what: :evil:
 
Well, I'd go to 1790, find James Madison and explain to him that many men 200 years later would have no sense of honor. I'd ask him to write the Bill Of Rights in such a fashion that liberal lawyers would have no wiggle room to degrade our civil liberties with various "interpretations."

The new Second Amendment would read something like: "All citizens shall have the right to keep and bear arms for any reason they damned well please, and anyone who tries to suggest otherwise shall be considered a target."

As for the gun to bring, it would be a finely engraved 1911 in a presentation box. I'd give it to Madison.

Jeez, some folks haven't read Hitchiker's Guide, eh? :D Don't worry about changing history, it fits together like a jigsaw puzzle. Everything works out in the end.

I'd take a bunch of gold coins and pick up local hardware for wherever I was going (first stop, Renisance Italy. Second stop, who knows?) No point in sticking out like a sore thumb (any more than I would already...)

You should read up on Little Big Horn.


An idea firearm would be one tolerant of different loads. This would allow creation of locally made ammuntion from lead, guano, salt peter, etc. So I would think some sort of folding stocked revolver, or small pump fed gun.

Remember your silencer! Gun shots don't blend in well with medieval times.
 
Just that Little Big Horn was an attempt by 1/3 of Custer's force to attack a fairly large village (men, woman, children) without scouting the enemy force for size. The attack failed because Custer's 2nd in command fell back with his third almost immediately, ignoring Custer's instructions and because the Indians were so pissed at having their village attacked for no reason. They were, after all, living in lands they owned, per treaty with the federal govt.

I guess what really prompted me to respond was wondering why you would want to support an attempted sneak massacre of an Indian settlement. Custer might have been a great leader, but he wasn't doing God's work that day. This falls into the same category as the Trail of Tears and Smallpox laden blankets.

I think we'd still be a prosperous country without the minor gold wealth and 4 month farming season of the plains states that we rescued from the "savages". We are talking about the Dakotas and the like, not California or Wisconsin.

I'm also not so sure that a force that small would have that much of an advantage over lever rifles, even with AKs. Being grossly outnumbered, and on horseback is a bad start.

We're talking solely about plains Indians because they were the ones that had a FEDERAL TREATY and were about to be attacked by the FEDERAL ARMY. Moreover, the land we "gave" them is not valuable and had no major effect on the prosperity of this country.

Your argument is the same one Israeli encroachments into Palestine use, and the tactics similar as well. Ignore a treaty, move in anyway, complain to the govt. and get "protected".

For all we know, the plains states might be a better, more prosperously used area of this country if the people living there viewed it as their own. In reality, the populations of all of those states are in sharp decline - the white settlers aren't staying.

Either way, you're still defending a planned massacre of a civilian population, not a military force. That shouldn't sit well with anyone. What next, a national holiday celebrating the Dresden fire bombing?

Hey Vic and Selfproclaimed..........um........we have private messenging for discussing some things......your both have valued opinions and I can see both sides BUT it is not longer about guns and time travelin'(which as we can see, is not such a great idea!)/ Seems alot of people prefer shooting rather than thinkin', which can be a very dangerous thing!
