SKS is a good platform as is.
Yep. It's a good platform for those of us who are compelled to trick out our guns.
I have about 30 guns. Only two of them are in their original state and I plan to customize one of those when I get the time.

Many of the users here and elsewhere HAVE tried the dustcover mounts, and while you get the odd guy who claims theirs works, most people report having issues retaining a zero with scopes mounted in such a manner. Its not a "theory" so much as a commonly reported experience
For what it is, the SKS is a decent 200 yard carbine. I'd say that the best improvements you could make would be to start with Tech Sights, install an after-market firing pin, and get a trigger job.
That was me that said the trigger job and the updated firing pin didn't work together

Pouring $200-400 of Tapco crap into it to make it into a weapon it was not intended is just silly. It reminds me of the guy that buys the beat up old Honda Civic and poors twice its worth into big new tires, rims, stereo, interior, etc. to make it into some Frankenstein that actually detracts from the value.
