Trigger modifications?

I would reckon that ALL pistols have working triggers. The gun has to have been test-fired at least once before being shipped for sale. Aside from quality/manufacturing problems, every gun for sale should be "good to go".

Your subject heading has nothing to do with your question.

Can you elaborate some on what you really want to find out?

wasn't

My Smith M & P 9 was not good ouot of the box but Dave Bowie of Bowie tactical did an outstanding job with that trigger system and it is one of my best shooters. Simply magnificent to say the least. If the M & P had the Bowie trigger work done to it, they would own the market IMO.

My G19 was also alittle rough to but Mike at Accurate-Iron did a super job with that handgun and it along with my Smith are just drop dead shooters.

I guess the factory just doesn't have the time and we the extra money to pay for such a system out of the box, sure wolud save alot of time.

Like CWL says, a lot of it has to do with what your idea of a good trigger is. Some people aren't happy with a Glock trigger until it has a heavier spring. I think my Kimber trigger is perfect, but some guys think an STI race gun trigger is perfect.

What kind of gun do you want and what do you want it to do?

I fancy the da/sa guns because the sa trigger is usually pretty good out of the box. For target work and field use all you have to do is cock it and you can deliver a very accurate first shot.

ok more specifically, i've been a .45 shooter using a custom 1911 and a very nice p220. i,ve been grappling for weeks trying to decide on a "good" hi cap 9mm for range and ccw-mostly range. most people i talk with and certainly most of whom i read buy the gun and immediately send it off for some type of action work: too much creep, too heavy, too much pretravel, long reset, etc. i'm not able to shoot them all; dry firing doesn't tell all. it would be nice if this was just fun and not a pita.

for six plus C notes, there should be one out there that doesn't need trigger mods. please inform

if it is for defense i say leave th triggers alone, ie the glocks, 1911's and xd's are good to go in my book. in my personal experience the xd triiger gets alot better with rounds fired and use. mine is a sweet as can be and there has been no work on the trigger.

I shoot 9mm Sig & CZ and I occasionally shoot my son's XD Service .45. I prefer steel guns too.

Sigs are pretty good OOB.

XD is pretty good OOB. My son has been happy with his since Rd ONE. Competition shooters get the reset shortened a little. The XDM advertises "short reset comes stock" and it high cap.

My CZ75B took a lot of TLC to fit it to my preferences. It's my range favorite in 9mm. I'm told by shooters the SPO1 is better/pretty good OOB and it's 19+1.

I have shot competition Kimbers and STIs in .45 cal that had awesome triggers. The STIs had trigger work the Kimber didn't but was a HIGH dollar gun (over $2200).

quick note, i shoot idpa matches with mine and have had no trigger work done to mine, but that is because it is well used and broke in. if i was getting a brand new xd, and didn't have the time to go through the 1k + rds to lighten it up i would have a trigger job done.

My Smith M & P 9 was not good ouot of the box
If the gun fired reliably everytime you pulled the trigger then it was good. It may have not been to your liking but it functioned and that's all required to be good. Now custom gunsmithing can make them better to suit you.

Majic: I understand what you're saying, but "functional" doesn't necessarily mean good. Good puts a smile or even a BIG grin on your face and a hole closer to point of aim.

The Glock trigger is nice in that it has a defined stop and a reasonably clean break from the stop. I bought parts to modify the trigger while waiting for my Glock 19 to arrive, but after shooting it enough to get ussed to it I still haven't modded the trigger. It's well past 1000 rounds out now and seems a little better if anything.

If you buy a quality handgun all factory triggers are "good to go" as they come to my experience unless there was something wrong with the gun (not something I've seen often). S&W and Ruger revolvers are better than Taurus but I don't think a Taurus trigger is unmanageable. SIG, Beretta, Glock and all the others are good out of the box. Triggers on different gun designs do feel different and there is obviously personal preference involved.

I think a lot of people get action jobs so they can say they have one. Some feel an action job will make up for poor skills. Smooth is more important than light (I think Ruger revolver triggers are heavier than S&W but they are smooth).

I really, really like the trigger on my FNH USG in 5.7x28mm. I'm still wondering how they got the trigger quite THAT good on an otherwise mostly polymer pistol!

The absolute best trigger I have ever used straight from the factory is the Witness Elite Match, like a really finely tuned 1911 trigger. Having said that I would never use it in a carry gun, much to light for my way of thinking. Mine came in at just under 2.5 lb.'s average over 5 pulls, and the gun is a bit much to conceal also.
