Arthritis in my strong hand. The distal joint of my trigger finger is heading east, so much that the sharp end of several triggers are painful to shoot, unfortunately in my favorite carry guns. Plays hob with group sizes and practice in general, especially shooting double action.

I would rather not trim off the ends of the triggers. I’ve considered slipping some plastic tubing over the triggers but perhaps there are trigger shoes for S&W J frames and CZs that you can recommend?

Thanks for your suggestions and experiences.

Maybe try filing a gentle radius around the end of the trigger?

On a carry revolver, an issue with a trigger shoe can be it's width. Holsters are generally designed with pretty tight tolerances, so a concern would be whether a wide trigger would result in an advertent trigger pull when the weapon is holstered. Something to look into.

I had a similar problem with a sharp trigger tip on a small semi auto. I used heat shrink tubing that's sold for covering electrical wire splices. I think I put on a couple of layers. It helped and I didn't need to modify the trigger.

I agree that a trigger shoe might not be the best choice for a carry gun.

The manufacturer of Ace trigger shoes was sued over an unintended discharge of a revolver while holstering it. As post #3 has mentioned the holster has to be carefully chosen.
Another thing to keep in mind is, that while a wide "target" trigger is great for accuracy and distributing the necessary force over a wider area of the finger, that will not work very well with a longer double action pull. The longer the pull is, the more the travel of the trigger finger is arched.

Relearn to shoot off hand? use your middle finger? or if you can put more of your finger through so you’re not bending that joint?? Seems a shoe wouldn’t stop the bending that may be causing the inflammation.

I have Carpel tunnel and have to shoot with my middle finger when it’s aggravating me.

Some of the CZ pistols have a different trigger that Cajun Gun Works offers. These replace the standard one that has a lot of “hook” to it. These also reduce the DA trigger reach, and aren’t tough to install, maybe for the CZ(s?) you could try this option.

I have a .500” trigger on an N frame and a K frame, it’s as wide as many trigger shoes. I don’t think one that wide will fit a J frame, nor would I want to try, but a .375” may with a bit of luck and/or gunsmithing (maybe?). It will protrude past the edges of the trigger guard, so the issues mentioned above about holsters and unintended discharges are certainly valid.

If nothing else seems to work, S&W and CZ triggers are easy to locate and install. So finding a custom fit for your situation by altering the trigger shape is easily undone with an unaltered trigger swap. :)

Good luck! Let us know how things work out.

Stay safe.
