Trijicon HD good or "original" tritium sights?

All my LGS seem to only have the HD version and said the original Trijicon tritium ones need to be sourced (and are cheaper).

I am wondering, are the HD ones superior?

I have tritium sights on my AR and they seem "fine" - not sure if I should go through the hassle of trying to source the original tritium sights, especially if they are inferior to the HD version?

(For Glock and Beretta).

Thanks.

The HD series feature a phosphorescent ring in orange or yellow encircling the front sight providing a larger overall dot and a wider rear notch. The color can help draw the eye to the front dot (where it should be) and improve daylight or indoor visibility where standard tritium provides no advantage. The combination should make them faster and easier to pick up, especially for older or challenged eyes. You may loose a bit of accuracy but ultimately night sights are meant for defense minded pistols.

OK thanks; I checked them out a bit more and looks like the HD versions are NOT tritium and require you to expose them to light first, then they glo-in-the-dark. This isn't actually what I want them for. I wanted night sights so when I grab my weapon in the middle of the night, I can see where the gun is aiming, without having to fool around recharging the glow paint.

However, what I think I will do is that I will have the HD on one of my guns and the tritium on the other one.

UPDATE: Looks like no HD sights for Beretta, so will have to go with the original tritium. My Glocks will get the HDs.

I would personally go with the HD if it was me. The front sight will be easier to pick up and focus on. The lack of a white outline around the rear tritium dots makes the rear sight less distracting, which will further help with keeping your focus on the front sight.

Just FYI, Ameriglo makes a very similar sight with their "Hack" or "Proglo" front sight (seen it referred to both ways). I believe the 3-dot setup is called the Pro Operator, while the 2-dot is called the i-dot (similar to Heinie Straight-8 configuration).

Good luck!
