I've got an old Remington 870P with a broken bead sight, and I'm looking at replacing it with a ghost ring set. My local gunsmith said that such a job would cost $200: $100 for Trijicon night sights and $100 for the smithing. Does that seem like a fair price? How do the Trijicon sights look during the day when it's bright out? What's the quality of Trijicon sights, and will I have to worry every time I bump my shotgun? Lastly, it would cost another $200 for a cerakote job; anyone pay something similar? Thanks, THR!

The price is close, the sights work good for day and night but remember that the Glow you see is stronger when it's dark, the size of the front bead is what you use in daylight.
The cera coat cost is ok, we use our own stuff but i really like cera-coat. the product cost is higher but it goes on about the same as ours. it is a harder finish and therfore is more resistant to scratches and dings.
Night sites of any type last 10 to 15 years with normal use, you can have the vials replaced when they stop working, the isotope goes inert after a period of time.

I have to ask this, because maybe I just don't understand...

If you are using a ghost ring rear sight, why would you need glowing dots on each side of the aperture?

The ghost ring sight is used by looking through the rear ring and allowing your eye to center the front night sight dot...wouldn't you find the rear glowing dot's distracting?

It isn't like you're going to try to align the front dot between the two rear dots...that defeats the original purpose of the ghost ring sight all together?

Is someone currently teaching a different alignment technique for the use of ghost ring sights

BTW: Trijicon makes a high quality product and their night sight front blade is about $65 and is attached to your barrel with epoxy

if it is for real low light shooting "defense" (which I guess it is) then trijicon
but ghost rings I would think not be a great choice for real low light, even with trijicon dots extra enhancements rear - seems like the ring would just handicap glo-sight alignment in real low light
good in daylight though (no glo req'd)
if want glo enhancement in not-real-low light, lot of fiber optics easily had for a lot less than trijicon stuff

indoors dark not so dark if you want to put a tactical flashlight on it, of course, optional
