Trip to LGS turns sketchy

Why show a CCW to a stranger at all?
Amen.
I was waiting for my number to be called at a large local shop one day. A gentleman standing beside me at one of the display cases (didn't know me from Adam) just out of the blue simply HAD TO pull up his shirt and show me his CCW. Why oh why oh WHY?
.

That's my answer to "Untrained constitutional Carry" :neener:

I've seen Army Lieutenants on my post (Fort Sill, OK) enaged in 'flagging' people with their muzzles while checking out firearms at the PX, If they didn't outrank me I would've cussed em out but since i'm a lower enlistedman i'll only shake my head.

As soon as I take this uniform off all bets are off though, My wife knows better than those LT's and she never served.

Can't spell lost without LT

Have gun shop owners/employees totally stopped correcting/reprimanding customers for pointing guns at people while checking them out? I am constantly stepping out of the line of fire and these are shops I consider decent.

Anyone who unholsters in my local LGS's is looking down the throat of a huge crapstorm from the staff. The least that would happen is to have half a dozen guys draw down immediately, and big signs on the door advise people on this.

Okay, wait. You believe the right of the people to keep and bear arms SHOULD BE infringed... because... one old guy bought a Glock, did something quite ridiculous, but still managed not to hurt anyone?

Your version of liberty is... peculiar.

Read it again. Once more, slowly with feeling. I am fine with Constitutional Carry. More states should adopt a permitless system. With the "encouragement" being on training. Many states require a training portion to prove competence with a firearm and yet those are not often considered "infringement." One of the chief reasons why I never charged for firearm courses was to offer incentive for people to learn.

While I realize that the 'old guy' twirling a gun is a dufus, I have no clue how you conclude poor store policy is somehow a 'Constitutional Carry' issue...

The LGS should never have allowed anyone to load mags in their store...

I do not agree with untrained Constitutional carry.
I am fine with Constitutional Carry.
These two statements of yours do in fact conflict superficially, but I recognize that there is a depth to the second that is really only found in the first.

You agree with 'trained constitutional carry'; you do not assent when it is untrained. You are 'fine with' constitutional carry, I presume the untrained type, which is to say that you accept and/or tolerate it. As you said though, you do not agree with it.

With feeling.

I thought it was spelled "doofus"... Learn something new every day!! :)

Really..., really?

Had a similar experience with a young man showing off to a newbie while pointing a 1911 over the counter at the middle of the store, where I was standing. I said "bad idea" and he gave me that look and said "what?" To which I replied, if you have to ask you shouldn't be working here. Brought it to the owner's attention and he was horrified and haven't seen that young man since.

I wouldn't step foot inside a store that would draw down on me for removing my CCW. I do, however, always inform the employee that I'm working with that I am going to unholster and unload my weapon prior to doing so. A LGS that prohibits concealed carry is unattractive in all sorts of ways.

Evel Knievel would have a hard time making that jump into absurdity. "I am fine with" does not translate into "I do not agree with." I do not believe that knowing how to use a firearm should be mandatory only encouraged. We as gun owners have a responsibility to each other and to the people around us to have a working knowledge of firearms. That includes what not to do with them ie Twirl them around your finger via trigger guard. I don't carry a firearm until I have taken it apart a few times, cleaned it, learned how it functions, and tested how it shoots out at a range. At the start of the classes I teach I say to the student(s) "The only thing more dangerous than a trained person with a firearm, is an untrained person. A trained person will engage their target efficiently where an untrained person is a danger to everyone including themselves." As the store patron was twirling his new purchase around his finger, I just made sure I was behind something solid and looked busy. But we have been on this tangent long enough.

Most gun stores I visited in VT allowed loading a firearm. I never did as it is considered frowned upon in most stores in other states. The closest I ever got was load a new spare magazine to my carry on a side table.

Again...

Your experiences with individual poorly run stores have nothing whatsoever to do with "Constitutional Carry"...

My experiences have been exactly the opposite to yours since I started hanging out in 'gun stores' in the 1960's...

My experiences in 'gun stores' have absolutely no bearing on 'Constitutional Carry' either...

When the trips to the LGS most often turn sketchy for me is to figure out how to get the new gun home without my wife figuring it out. :)

That's not a surprise, at least around here. No LGS I've been to in Central FL allows loaded weapons on customers in the store, even CC (as far as they know, of course).

Or am I missing your sarcasm...

So you'll have 4-5 people willing to kill a person for slowly pulling out a gun in a gun store? I of course would not draw a gun, even slowly in a gun store but this notion of everyone then drawing down on a person is pretty wild.

Suppose there are lots of different types of stores and people. I usually leave what I'm bringing in in my vehicle. Go in, let them know I'm bringing it in. I definitely go out of my way to be safe and smart...but if I were in a gun store and someone slowly and calmly pulled out a gun...I'd stay out of the line of fire and possibly leave but I definitely wouldn't be looking down my sights drawing a bead on his chest.

Now you know why some shops have a sign saying something like' "No Loaded Firearms Inside". This guy clearly had no idea what he was doing. It would make wonder about hs "friend" as well. Glad no one got hurt.

This is exactly why I'm not thrilled to see more and more people carrying these days. There are a LOT of people who are struck with the novelty of guns and being armed (I'm sure you've seen these idiots at the LGS and gun shows) but don't have the personal responsibility to learn proper safe handling.

This kind of behavior happens more than we would like to think.

When someone in a LGS points a gun they are looking over at me I throw my hand in the air and say " I give up , don`t shoot "

It usually makes the point .
