I read where FFFg is recommended for calibers below .45. I have a .32 Crockett and mistakenly purchased Triple 7 FFG. Can I use this safely and successfully and if so what may be some good load recommendations to start. Thank you.
From all the testing I've done with my .50 cal rifle - I can tell little difference between 2fg & 3fg 777. The 2fg is cut so fine in the first place that it is almost 3fg in look - which is why I think it is more powerful than any other 2fg powder................I guess you can say it is like a 2 1/2fg powder.
I can't recommend a load for you since I've never dealt with a Crockett, but I'm sure others can and hopefully the gun came with documentation for loading purposes as well. I would start with their lower recommendations using the 2fg and see what happens - it will be safe I'm sure and you can experiment up from there.
The Traditions .32 Crockett Rifle owner's manual lists a load of 10 grains with either a .12 or .15 patch and .310 round ball as an accurate load, but loading between 15 to 30 grains is more common.
The charges are small enough that making a 15% accomodation for using the 777 ffg probably isn't going to affect the accuracy very much.
