I'm going to give them a try...everybody says they last longer.

I ordered 3 7 round mags for an officers size 1911 (Baer Stinger), with hybrid followers and removable base pads...

Any predictions on how these will work?

I wasn't sure which follower I wanted but went with the hybrid mainly because it has the dimple.

Virgil sent me a few Cobras to test and report on. None were OM-size mags, but I beat 6 of the 8-rounders and 3 of the 7-rounders like a borrowed mule in about 20 different pistols...over the course of about 3 months and 2500 rounds of ammo loaded with various bullet styles, shapes, weights, and cartridge overall lengths.

I was duly impressed. The performance was stellar, and my money says that if your pistol won't run with'em...you've got a bigger problem than magazines.

I used Cobras in my SA Champion. Nothing else would lock the slide back. (Sold the gun, but used those mags for a while in other guns)
I liked them, and would use them again. I prefer the metal flat followers, but these are a very good alternative.

Thanks a bunch guys...

The reason I needed new mags ...

My Baer mags are about 1 year old and have around 10,000 rounds through them and I'm starting to get a few 2nd round nosedives. (recoil spring is new and feed ramp is fine)
My gun HAS TO HAVE good stiff mag springs (its a Baer thing I think)...as I understand it Tripps are the best springs there are. I mostly use hollowpoints (XTP's or Golden Sabres) and they have fed fine for the last 7,000+ rounds...if I put Wolff 9# springs in the mags, they run fine...but they become 6 rounders instead of 7 so I'm fairly sure its only worn out mags. (I hope)

I thought I'd try something new.

You will find that six round mags will work more reliably more often in an officer's model frame. You can also go to an 11 pound spring that way, and your mag related failures will vanish.

Yep...you're right Steve....I have found that out...but I want 7 rounds if I can get them to run.
The Baer mags were great after I changed the springs (Wolff extra power...still 7 round mags)...but that was 10 months ago. They have been used hard.

I've been reading up on mags for a couple of weeks, my gun DOES NOT like Wilson mags...so I thought I'd give the Tripps a try.

Of all the seven round magazines out there for the officer's model, the tripps will be the safest bet. They use an excellent spring and follower design. It is highly unlikely that the mags you have are worn out. Check the feed lips and see that they are not bowed out slightly, and other than that, they should be 100%. The springs, unfortunately, should be replaced pretty often. Try ISMI springs next time, they hold their tension a wee bit longer than Wolff. Best of luck, and let us see that Baer!

4.25 inches.
I don't consider a Baer 4.25" barrel an Officer's model, ala Colt...More along the lines of a Commander, same barrel length....
The true Officer's model's barrel length is 3.625".
Does Baer advertise this model as an Officer's clone???

Does Baer advertise this model as an Officer's clone???

No...but it is nearly a clone of the Colt CCO...officers frame and a commander barrel.

The reason I say "nearly" is because Baer frames have more metal in them...the slide travel is about 1/10th of an inch shorter than the Colt version.

I got my mags a day early...they told me Friday.

They look fantastic...they work even better...I'll post a more detailed report in a little while...with pics.

I have noticed some interesting differences between the Tripp mags and the Wilson mag that I have...most notably...the difference in the feed lips, the Tripps hold on to the round MUCH longer before handing it off the the extractor. Anyway...more to come...
