I want to get a tritium front sight for my 870. How does the original silver bead on the 870 come out? The tritium bead has a 6-48 thread, will that thread in, or will i have to have a gunsmith install it?

If it is a newer 870 than it is threaded. In that case then you should be able to unscerw it with not too much effot. More likely it is press fit. If it is press fit then well that is going to suck. If you want to do it yourself, then you'll probably have to cut it flush, drill it out, and then tap it for the new bead. If it is press fit, I would take it to a smith.

IMO, your best bet is a XS Big Dot front sight that glues over the existing bead with JB Weld. I put one on my 870 and it has taken some serious knocks. It is not going anywhere and it has improved the ergonomics tremendously.

I cant tell if mine is pressed or if its just threaded really tight. i think it might be pressed. its a newer 870 with a silver bead.
