I just purchased a new RCBS Rock Chucker Supreme Master Reloading kit form Midway USA. I am sorry to say I was completely surprised and disappointed at the total lack of quality control. The press did not have a shell holder retaining spring installed, if I had a spring I could fix that.
The powder measure did not have a cap and the hopper was not attached to the base. The cap is not a big deal but I can not press fit the hopper to the base without damaging the plastic. As it is the thing is completely useless to me. When I buy something brand new I do not expect to have to fix it before I use it.
If it wasn’t for the high cost of shipping I would return the entire kit and be done with it. I do not have enough money to be shipping heavy items back and forth across the country and have nothing to show for it.
A copy of this was sent to RCBS and Midway. Now I wait to see what they will do about it.

If the kit was defective, you should not have to pay for return shipping.

Unless you want junk falling into your powder measure, I think the cap is a big deal but easily remedied; they just need to send you one.

The hopper not attached to the base? That is certainly a new one.

Well don't just site around and wait. Call RCBS 1st thing in the morning and they will have parts shipped out to you as soon as they can. While I am sure its not overly comforting but I assure you this in not how RCBS usually operates. Their stuff is usually top notch.

I would be very surprised if RCBS didn't make everything good. To be honest, I've have much quicker turn around with RCBS if you give them a call. Either way, I've had great service from them.

I called RCBS about something I caused on my press and they wouldn't even let me pay for it.

Just call them and tell them what you received and they will take care of it without hesitation. They have a very good reputation for that.

It only take one moron in a company to make an entire organization look bad.

Give RCBS a chance and if they don't take care of it, then you have cause to really be upset and we would to know about it.

I would be upset in receiving "unusable equipment" at what RCBS charges, but I have been dealing with them since the 1970s and they have never let me down.

I feel bad for what you received from them, you didn't have a very good first experience, but call them and give them a chance to make it right.

They will take care of you.

Instead of badmouthing a product on a forum, wouldn't it be better to contact the manufacturer and give them a chance to make it right, which RCBS will do?

Like mentioned above, they guarantee their products for life. Their life, not yours, as some repair parts have been furnished for free for equipment purchased at estate sales, even after they were told. RCBS is an upstanding company and they don't deserve your angst, especially before giving them a chance. Every company makes a mistake once in awhile, which is why there are warrantees.............

Hope this helps.

I would sure let Midway know about this too. I'll wager someone (maybe at Midway?) opened the box and either looked at the press, or this was already a customer return which someone messed with. It's truly not like Midway to send out something new in the box like you described. But either way I'll equally wager RCBS will make it right, right away.

Call them or Midway.

Either one will jump on your problem like flies on a gut pile!

However.

Before badmouthing RCBS?

How do you know Midway didn't send you a re-packaged return kit somebody else had already lost some parts for??

You don't know for 100% sure.

In the mean time?
Give everyone a chance.

They WILL resolve any problems you have, at no cost to you.

Cost to OP- a few $100s
Cost to HR members- $ 0.00
Humor for all at pitiful temper tantrum towards everyones favorite company?

you got it

PRICELESS

What RC said +2. RCBS is exceptional in customer service. I recently sold an old RCII and the handle apparently went through the box during shipping, and disappeared. I called RCBS, told them what happened, and tried to buy another handle. The rep wanted to know where I wanted it shipped. I gave them the buyers address and he said "his handle is on it's way". NO charge..

They sent me a free ball-knob handle to replace the bicycle grip handle on my 1970 Rock-Chucker a few years ago.

Because it was making my old hands hurt after 30 years of use.
And I made the mistake of trying to pay them for it, after I gave the guy my address!!!!

It was in the mail, Free the same day.

Try that with the shifter knob on your 1970 Chevy or Ford!!

Some of you are chastizing the OP for expressing his/her opinion.
Isn't that what forums are for???????

I'd be ticked off as heck if I rec'd a press in the manner that the OP did.
Yes, absolutely I believe RCBS will make it right.

But isn't it their job to not allow that to leave the factory in the first place?

I had a similar situation take place when I worked at a factory for a nationally known brand of garden tractor.
We had 2 new people on a 4 person crew.
Days later when the equipment was sold & found to be defective, I got chewed out.
I had more than enough to do just doing my own job.
I physically couldn't take time to do 2 other jobs.
My supervisor dropped the ball, when without supervision he allowed 2 new people in the assembly dept.

This sounds eerily similar to me.

Last year I bought a 300 BLK die set from Midway. The expander ball had a case neck stuck on it where it appears someone tried to expand a 22 caliber case to 30 caliber.

My guess is some SOB was too cheap to own up to his mistake and returned the die set for a refund. Without disassembling the die, you would never see the problem.

But, as rcmodel said, I cannot be sure Midway just sent a return back out but...

Midway has always bent over backwards for me to fix problems with any of my orders and I have had good customer service from RCBS so give them a chance to make things right.

I will admit it is frustrating though.

As I said before.
He bought it from Midway, not directly from RCBS.

Who knows if it was a return re-packaged at Midway and resold?

Or an error at RCBS??

It might have left the factory in perfect condition, then got sold, opened, and returned and resold again??

It could have been busted open in shipment and resealed???

Only the Shadow Knows, for sure.

rcmodel makes a good point.

I had an experience with a Forster product bought from Graf's.....people make mistakes.

I ordered a 3-way cutter for the Forster Trimmer. It's supposed to slide over the existing cutter and shaft......it was bored way too small! Called Graf's and they sent another immediately.......then I got an email directly from Forster! They apologized, and asked me if I'd be willing to return the small-bored cutter in a prepaid box they already mailed me. Seems the Owner of Forster had made that particular 3-way for his own use for who knows what......said "I wondered where that disappeared!":D I sent it back in their post paid box....by that time I already had possession of a working version.

Posting this experience on multiple forums will not improve your situation. One would be sufficient. You have received essentially the same response in other forums: call either company, either will fix the problem and you will not be out of pocket.

I ordered a new 16 oz bottle of Hoppes new formula 9 solvent.
Midway shipped the bottle in a very heavy liquid proof package.
When I received it -- the bottle had all leaked into the liquid proof package.
The same day Midway shipped me a new bottle sent in a small box with 2 of those air bags on top of it---NO leaks--NO fancy liquid proof package.
NEW EMPLOYEE GETTING RID OF THEIR MISTAKES ???????

It's a bummer when things like this happen, but they do occasionally. The best way to fix this is to call Midway or RCBS. Ultimately RCBS will make it good. They stand behind their stuff 100%.

Call them first thing. :)

I also agree that RCBS will make it right but I appreciate the OP posting his experience.

RCBS is a great company. None of us want to admit it but this COULD be an indicator of a trend. All trends start with one or two 'escapes'. If people don't communicate issues like this, it is often too late when we find out about it and it's much more difficult (if not impossible) to reverse.

Remember, it was reported that they did start outsourcing the casting of their presses to China. Maybe, they outsourced the packaging/shipping of new presses/kits too. Don't say that it's impossible. That's what I do for a living and I have worked with many US companies that you would never believe outsourced big parts of their operation.

To me the OP was simply stating his problem and frustrations, not really knocking either Midway or RCBS. Anyone who has dealt with either company knows they will take care of their customers.
I would have been upset also.

Well RCBS is sending the missing parts and all will be made right. They also educated me on the ease of assembly and disassembly of the Uniflo powder measure, through a video. I had never done it and didn’t realize it was so easy.

I have been using their products for more than 30 years and what shocked me is to see a kit with several problems in the same box. When you expect high quality and don’t get it you start to think something is up.
