Trouble finding good 3006 reload

nissantech, here is a very similar thread you might gain some knowledge from: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=772293

I'm using the Hornady Overall Length Gauge, Comparator, and Headspace tools to obtain all of my measurements.

rayatphonix, Remington 700 rifles have always had a reputation for having long (for caliber) chambers. The test rounds I've loaded are seated at 3.320" COAL, but the chamber of my rifle is much longer than that. SAAMI max is 3.340" yet I've measured the beginning of the lands at 3.480" so I am well off the lands, around .160".

After I settle on some accurate loads, I'm going to play with seating rounds closer toward the lands to fine tune those loads.

utvolsfan77 that is a great link and thanks for posting it. I am still reading through it and most of it I have read but it does help with it relating to a 30.06. I will set the bullet of the lands .020 and then work the powder load up from 53 gr. with .5 gr increments. Looks like I will be cleaning lots of brass and spending some time in the garage. :)

nissantech, weather still has me on hold and I've been unable to get to the range. Two years ago I had two heart attacks and two surgeries, and doctors put me on several meds. One of them is a blood thinner that really kicks my ass during cold weather. Due to this, even if I bundled up, I've got to have a fairly warm day to shoot or I would be unable to maintain proper shooting form.....i.e., it's kind of hard to hold a steady sight picture when you're shaking like a tree during a hurricane! lol

Will post results as soon as I can get some range time though, so I haven't forgotten about you.

You know, a bullet that has always grouped superior for me in every single rifle I've loaded them for, is the Speer BTSP. They're less than half the price of those proudly priced Nosler's, and even less expensive than most other cup and core bullets also. But more importantly, they really shoot well. And although the Speer Hot Core has long been my absolute favorite for both hunting and paper punching, those BTSP's have downed a good number of deer for me over the years.

I have found that with IMR-4350 most often the accurate charge is going to be closer to the upper end of the table. With 165's the table begins at 56.0 grs., don't be shy about using that table, cause your not likely to get any kind of accuracy at charges less than the published start. If fact, 4350 is a slow burner, it needs pressures to produce consistency.

Everyone is always saying how 700 have long throats, none of mine have long throats, I have some ranging from the 1970's up to present, all will allow me to seat as close to the lands as I desire, and I'm know to jam.
