Im using the cast bullets from lee that you just tumble lube, and I seated them down and crimped them on the last land so there was just a bit of lead above the case mouth. What happend was in the way to the barrel ramp the lead hit the edge of the lead ramp just befor the barrel ramp and dinged the lead enough to make going into chamber slow and hard. I had to push the slide forward with my thumbs inorder to close the action. Has anyone elce had this problem? Im trying to seat even deeper and I polished the feed ramps to a mirror, and will see what that dose. Any input from casters that have had overcome simlar problems?

Put a round of known good feeding quality in your press. Back the seating and crimp die off at least 3 full turns. Screw JUST the crimp portion of the die down on the round with the ram fully up. When it won't turn by hand any more back the ram down and put another 16th of a turn on the die, lock the body in place. Now raise the ram back up fully and screw the seater down firmly in contact with the bullet.

The XD has a fairly generous chamber and should feed 95% + of the unsized bullets if you are casting them well. Use the above procedure to set your OAL and crimp. Load a couple rounds. Measure OAL and make sure you are not under minimum for the loading data you are using. Shoot and enjoy.

Problem fixed

I tried out the bullets with the new seat depth, right down to the top edge of the highest land on the bullet, and i fired off about 100 rounds with no problems at all. So the problem seems to be fixed, and it was an easy fix, not sure how much polishing the feed ramps did but its fixed now and shoots tight groups that make me smile every time. This XD pistol shoots great, I oun a buch of pistols and its one of my best shooters easly.;)
