So, I've had an FNP 40 for about 6 months now, put under 500 rds through it, love the gun, accurate, ergonomic, etc.
The problem: So I take it out to the range, pull the DA trigger all the way back to the point where it can't move because it's against the frame, and it refuses to go off. To be honest, I expect a whole lot more from an FN. I have had no issues in SA mode. I'm a 1911 guy, and while I can detail strip my 1911, I don't have a clue as to the workings of the FNP series of pistols, and I don't know exactly what the problem is with this gun. I image it's a trigger assembly issue, but I'm at a loss here. If anybody could tell me a simple fix before I send it back to FN, I'd appreciate it. Thanks, all.

I've heard of this problem with the FNX. First time I read about it with the FNP.

At least 3 people in one thread reported their FNX doing this when either left in the sun or after shooting as little as 50 rounds. The only known fix was to send it back to FN.

I haven't had a chance to shoot my FNX, yet. I will be on the lookout for this issue. But there's so much overtravel on the trigger, I find it curious how this could happen, at all.

I am glad to hear about your problem. Not really glad that you have the problem but I have had the same problem with my FNP 45. I thought it was just me!! It seems to have something to do with the heat build up in the gun. I can "shoot" snap caps all day long with no problems but it shows up at the range with real ammo. I have noticed that my FNP seems to build heat pretty quickly and that is when the problem starts. Maybe it needs to take a little trip back to the factory.

It was extremely hot yesterday. I live in south-eastern Iowa, and the heat indexes were around 115 while I was at the range. Maybe that had something to do with it. However, it's nice to hear that I'm not the only one with this problem. By the way, don't shoot an AK when it's that hot out. My finger is still burned. :)

Well, after almost three months of the handgun waiting for repairs, I have my FNP .40 back again! They told me they ended up replacing the entire trigger assembly, and the reason why they had it for so long was that they were performing "important investigations on the quality of the metals and plastics in the trigger assembly to try to prevent this problem from further manifesting in the FNH pistol line". To be quite honest, I was very favorably impressed with FNH's customer service. They were polite, answered any question I had, and kept me up to date on the progress of the pistol. And the kicker? I heated the gun up and fired 100 rounds through it on Sunday... with no problems! All things considered, I'm a happy camper.

Good to hear, usually people aren't too happy with losing their property for that long, but all things considered, it's so much better for them to take their time checking out the issue so they can make it right in a permanent sense than to just swap out the affected parts and send it home immediately.
