Howdy, folks. Like a lot of folks, I have some misgivings about the stock sights on an AK, though I love the rest of the rifle. Currently, I have an Ultimak gas-tube / rail on my AK, and the Texas Weapon Systems rail is in the mail. Any thoughts on putting some Troy sights on top of it all? Thanks for your suggestions.

Let's just get this out of the way: I have NO problem with buying a $400 rifle and throwing $1,000 worth of upgrades into it. And yes, I know that Ultimak+TWS+Troy doesn't equal $1,000 but you get the idea :) Thanks again, guys.

A few things:

- You're going to need a cheek riser of some kind with the sights up that high.
- Not sure of the difference with the TWS rail and the Ultimak, the difference might be severe.

Alternatively, the Krebs Custom Rifles scope rail incorporates a set of peep sights into the rear of the rail that line-up with the front sight.

The Ultimak rail is quite a bit lower. A front sight that is supposed to go on a gas block rail might work. That would be taller than a handguard rail mounted front sight. Maybe too much though. They aren't designed for this application.

Either way though, AR15 sights are way taller than AK sights. On the AR15, the stock is more inline with the bore.

Thats like mounting a Porsche insignia on an old ford LTD, LOL. Kidding.

For that kind of $$$ just buy the Krebs AK REAR SIGHT RECEIVER RAIL SYSTEM CATALOG NUMBER 51. Only $295 + shipping.

$160 + shipping for the TWS
$99 + shipping for the Ultimak
min $110 + shipping for the Troy Sights
------------------------------------
Total is at least $370.00 That is ALOT of loot. Get the Krebs, go simple and save yourself some headaches.

Troy also makes "stubby" sights which are lower in height. Those might work better than the ones made for the standard AR15 rail height. To deal with the differences in rail heights, you might try a standard front and a stubby rear. Nonetheless, you might still find that they are "up there"

The TWS rail comes with a ghost ring sight that attaches to the back of the rail. It will align correctly with your AK's front sight, and offers a much longer sight radius than stock sights. The rail will cowitness with a Bushnell TRS25 (though not an aimpoint).

However, the developer of the TWS rail is working on a hinged dust cover rail that will get even lower and cowitness with many popular optics while using the rear sight lever to help maintain a zero. Many have tried before, I know, but with the success of the dog leg I have faith that he'll pull this one off as well.
