I currently own a Para Ordnance GI Expert that works great and I got it at a very good price. It eats commercial ammo and my reloads too. Thinking of using it as my "truck gun". I also have my eye on a Glock 30SF as a possible truck gun.

Which would you choose?

I would choose the gun you allready have.

My truck guns are the junky fullsize beginner guns I started with. Not good enough for HD since i've evolved, and too big for CCW. Something I can toss in the truck and not care too much about. Moisture, rust, theft etc.

Like a Ruger P95. Bolted an Uncle Mikes holster into the armrest/center console thingy. as long as I have a CCW it's legal in my communist state.

Depending on where I am going, I carry a G36 or a Taurus Judge in the console. The G36 for around town, the Judge for out in the country. Both will get the job done.

Why not use your every day carry, and come up with a "truck mount" instead? I think a gun intended for self defense should be well cared for, and practiced with often. I envision a truck gun rattling around under the seat, not getting much attention.

My definition of a "truck gun" is a rifle. I carry personally but keep a 45 SA stainless with 4 extra mags encased behind the seat. It rests on a few rifles in an aluminum carry case. lol, one should have a selection to match the needs.

Have a look at some cross-draw holsters for you everyday PO hardware. Maybe you can find one that is comfortable enough for long hauls. I know I've seen some designed specifically for driving cocked and locked.

Happy trails.

I have gotten to where I seldom cc anymore. Kind of counter intuitive considering the times we live in but that's another story.
My "truck"or saddlebag/console/door pocket gun is the XD40sc I used to carry. Pretty tough for knocking around, reliable, wipe it off with a little oil and shoot it regularly to confirm reliability.

The truck gun would be in addition to my ccw. I'm going to use my GI Expert as the truck gun as it will share mags with my Kimber Pro Raptor II or Springfield TRP.

Silly thought

My buddies truck gun is one of those cheap folding Kel-Tec Rifles and uses 30+ round Glock mags, which may be of interest to you. He has all sorts of stuff, but laughs about this one. He has more in the cost of mags and ammo than in the gun itself.

Kel-Tec Sub2000. That's a great idea. They were made with the intention of marketing to law enforcement. There are versions that take Glock magazines, Sig P226 magazines, and Beretta 92 magazines. Given that Glock has factory 33 round magazines and the others don't have any that large, the Glock based version is the best.

The mentality of a "truck gun" is not one I would advise. It should be maintained just like any other gun you would have. You're going to want it to work without any undue chance of a failure. Shoot it every now and then to make sure it works, clean it and put it back.

A glock 20 in 10mm in the bag and a rem pump behind the seat with the big pellets. I guess it depends on where the truck is going...

A firearm in your vehicle is not going to do you any good. It is nothing more than a false sense of security.

I'm a 1911 guy, but I chose a Glock 19 because of ammo and magazine availability and the bulletproof finish.

I dont like glocks, so if it gets stolen I'd just be ticked off about losing $650 I have invested it. And I think they're already ugly, so I dont care if it gets beat up.

I use a Ruger P95. Like someone else said, if it get's stolen I'm really not out that much. And, if I run out of ammo, I can always hit somebody with it. It's plenty sturdy, even for a polymer gun.
