This Journey started a year ago, when Blade magine ran the article on Integrals. I was so amazed by the work of Edmund Davidson and Ron Best. I was amazed by the strength and design of one piece construction. I started looking back into it few months back. This is what I came up with.
This may become my new construction. This Knife is "Number One" of my Integral Designs.

5/32 Thick Blade made of 440C RC of 59
Grind is a Hollow Ground.
Cutting Edge is 3''.
Overall Length is 8''
Construction is Integral.
Handle is Green Dyed Box Elder Burl.
Sheath and Knife Case is included.

Warranty
I have a no non-sense Guarantee, you break it under normal use. I Promise I will fix or replace it as long as I am able to work in the shop. Plus if for any reason you are ever unhappy with it. Send it back to me for a "FULL REFUND" Because I don't make a knife I wouldn't love to own.

Now that is one beautiful piece of work! Although I don't like stainless steel generally, I heartily approve of the use of 440c for a piece like that. I actually like 440c, properly hardened, over even the SV30 series steels. 440C really polishes up nice and is genuinely "stainless" IMHO. Nice work, how much?

That's a difficult piece to make and you've done a nice job with it. Very impressive.

Pretty nice work! I think integrals are just about the height of knifemaking skill. If you can do a good integral, you should be able to do just about any fixed blade imaginable.

Your workmanship is first class and so is the design.

I believe Timberline; years ago made the integral, and I regret not buying one of those when they were available.

I'm waiting to see a broad blade skinner with less expensive wood scales and
a satin or less labor intense finish.

You seem to have outdone yourself. Beautiful work! I need to get some time to get back in the shop. I am itching to make some more, but I don't think an integral is anywhere in my near future.

Please forgive a newb. What are the design characteristics that make it an integral knife? Black Toe that is a gorgeous knife.

JESmith Thank you. That is good question. I didn't know what an integral was a year ago. Integral mean that the guard, the blade and hilt is made from one continuous piece of steel. The design make a incredibly strong knife.

Fergy Thank you. Last November '08 I was awed by Edmound Davidison's work in Blade. I had never seen a integral. Last Summer I met Ron Best. It was over at that point. I was Hooked. So see what can happen in a year.

Gorgeous. What does something like that go for? Or is it one of those, if you have to ask you can't afford it type deals?;)

They run about 500.00 up. The labor is very intense over a regular knife. You have the added expense of machining and removing the extra metal. I have never polished a knife so much.

Integrals have a difficulty degree high enough to make many knife makers cringe. I briefly thought about doing one when I was making, but a millisecond later I came to my senses.:what:

A man has to know his limitations.:neener:

Your integrals really are awesome!;)

Thank you.

Mike, never ever let you limitations interfere with you dreams. Because your limitations are of only of what you know. Some of your dreams haven't even been dreamed yet.
