Truglo Red Dot Sights

Does anyone have any experience with this brand? I need a red dot or holo sight for my AR with a budget of about $225 to invest. Truglo does have a life time warranty.

i bought one of their $90 2.5x red dots for my AR because i was on a tight budget too. i was very disappointed. the optics were ok, but blurry around the edges. the dot was nice and tight and had 11 brightness settings. that was a good thing. the battery life was pretty good too. the biggest problem was paralax error. if you set the gun in a rest and move your head a little, the dot was all over the place. your cheek weld had to be identical each time or POI would wander. I eventually saved up the dough and put an EOTech 512 on it.

With optics, the old maxim "you get what you pay for" holds true. I would find whatever is the closest in price to your budget and go with that. Oh and the Tru Glo didn't co-witness either. if you want to try it, i'll sell you mine for $30 shipped. it might go well on a .22 plinker or something if it doesn't work on your AR.

I haven't shopped for red dots in quite a while so i'm not really sure what's out there in the $225 range, but i think you could do better than Tru Glo. just an opinion.

I purchased a Truglo red dot a couple years back. It's a fairly basic model without magnification, only red or green dot. I had it on a WASR-10 for a while and it always worked well for me except the knob for adjusting intensity of the green or red dot is a little stiff. It might just be mine though as that my father bought one after trying mine and his adjusts a little easier than mine. He also is pleased with his and uses it on a Remington 870 SuperMag with rifled barrel for deer hunting.

me, my brother, and my father in law are all running the cheap 30mm truglo red dot (2 AR's and an sks) without problems. I can't say we've ever had a problem with the dot wandering or shorting out. it's not perfectly clear, the dot's not perfectly round, etc, but they've worked. the scope caps that come with it are garbage. the cheap tasco red dot on the 10/22 has wandered some.

also, if you get a dot with the built in rings, you'll need a riser. I had a flat top with no front sight and tried to mount low, but it was too low. if I was buying today though, I'd get the millet red dot at academy for $60.

I just bought a tru glo 30 mm the one which has 4 reticles, and can choose red or green. It has plenty of brightness, way more then you'll ever need for the brightest day. I haven't fired a round with it yet. It came with see thru lens caps and a battery which they say will last for a really long time. Truglo says its waterproof, fogproof and shockproof. I've read on other sites some reviews and people have mounted them on their slug guns, bird guns and turkey guns... so they definately can hold up to recoil The only thing I don't like about most tube style red dots is parallax, which is why I want to sell this one and buy a low cost aimpoint.
