Trying to ID old cartridges

First off if this in the wrong forum, sorry Mods, feel free to move it just figured this would be the best place to get lots of views.

My wifes grandmother was cleaning her closet and gave me some old ammo that was laying around, mostly some old hunting rifles shells and some leftover handgun ammo (32, 357 mag)... Anyway in the pile was a small cardboard box holding 16 rounds of ammo. I am trying to ID it, it appears to be old and maybe german. I am thinking it is 9mm but since I don't have a 9mm I can't tell for sure. I took some pics but my camera doesn't like to do closeups I guess

The shells are labeled: "14 44 am st+"

The box label is not easily readable but what I was able to pick up is fragments:

" -patronen 08" and "1944 am 30" and "08 -1912 faa 298-"

Can anyone tell me what they are?

That has the characteristic look of 9mm ball ammo. I am guessing that it's a 115 grain bullet.

clear photos of the box label would help alot, the ones you posted are blurry, but it looks to be 9mm ball, in a steel casing, the label and end stamp (where the primer is) would let those MUCH more knowledgeable than me tell you country and year, possibly much much more.

Yes, definitely German WWII 9mm Parabellum ammo. Probably has a steel core 124 grain bullet. German wartime steel-case ammo has generally not aged well and I wouldn't suggest shooting it. A full box in that condition (not too bad, but not sealed/mint) might bring $10-15.
