Greetings all,

I recently moved to Tucson, moved in, and am now looking for good nearby gun shops. I'm looking for ones with good prices, good service, and a wide selection of various stuff. Any suggestions?

Also, to those in Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, etc., I'd be interested in linking up and heading out somewhere to shoot within the area, then maybe getting something to drink. Drop me a line if you're interested.

Welcome to freedom! All I can really tell you is that the one on Broadway, about a mile or two east of Kolb has a lot of good stuff, and one of my former students works there. Only been there once, and I've never been to any others in Tucson.

marksman ... on 29th.. they have a good selection of pistols... murphys has tons of pistols... then there is jensens on pima.. i heard jensens is closing down who knows.. there is also west of the pecos guns on pima too..what i would doo... is when you have a gun in mind... go to every single one they are close to each other and see who has the best.. find the cheapes one then call the others and bargain.. see if they can beat the others prices :)

Try Diamondback police supply on Kolb just south of Broadway. Good prices and a great ammo selection. I get all of my carry ammunition there.

For the local guy, try Jensen's. I hadn't heard that they were closing so can't say one way or the other there. Two locations to choose from, one of them with an indoor range:

5146 E. Pima (520-325-3346)
and
1280 W. Prince Road (520-690-0258)

For the big chain, there is a recently opened (last year?) Sportsman's Warehouse over near Costco at
3945 West Costco Drive (520-877-4500).

Jensen's has been closing for a decade now:D
It was once a great store, but had gone down hill when I was there last (decade ago I guess).

Murphy's is great and I always liked West of the Pecos, they would be my first choice unless things have changed.

You're a lucky man! I would be there tomorrow if possible. Best place I've lived (and I've seen many now).

Thanks for all the advice, folks!

I went out, perused a few shops, explained I was new to the area and asked if they knew of any other shops that I might be interested in. All of them gave me the names and addresses of several other shops (good signs -- I won't do business with a shop that won't give out names of its competitors, even if I don't shop at the competitors).

I ended up getting a Bushmaster XM15-E2S at Murphy's for about $1000 after tax (about $950 before tax). Right in the ballpark of what I was looking to spend. It's so refreshing to:

1) Buy an Evil Black Rifle.
2) Know that this rifle would be illegal in California.
3) Have the NICS check go through in about 1 minute and a half, pay the money, and walk out of the store with the gun in my hand.

Truly refreshing, that!

Now I'm going to have to sell off a bunch of the rifles I don't use much anymore to pay off the AR!

For future reference, and for anyone Searching this thread in the future:

Legal Pawn Shop

1552 S 4th Ave
Tucson, AZ 85713
(520) 622-0265

The name isn't terribly reassuring, the neighborhood isn't the best, but the staff was informed and courteous, lots of neat odd things in inventory, and all haggleable. I dropped by while passing through, and picked up a Remington Nylon 66 and a Marlin 60 for $175 OTD for the pair.

Just another one to check out if you meander through South Tuscon. Lots of good Sinaloan taquerias down there too.

Check out Rich's Gun Room on Pima not too far from Jensen's. Has a good variety and I've found his prices and customer service to be great.

you will love this state!

i have lived in AZ for most of my life, but i just got more involved with firearms, and i feel like building a shrine to this state or sending my bay area gun friends "wish you were here" postcards. my buddy works at jensens and he says the reason there is such a lack of guns is because they have a new owner, or soon to be. the old owner doesn't want to put in a new stock since he is leaving, and the new guy isn't fully in, obnoxious for us. i like diamondbacks and jensens. when you go to the indoor range at jensens, look in the glass near the range door. between the two panes, there is a bullet lodged that was somehow shot backwards towards the shop :what: . good to have another tucson shooter, even tho i am now in phx for the moment. also, if you are a foodie, tucson prides itself on its independently owned, phenomenal restaurants. bear down.

Welcome to a free state!! I recommend Diamondback Police Supply. They have always treated me good and they support law enforcement. They also offer CCW classes for $40 which I find pretty inexpensive compared to others in town. Jensens closed their doors on Prince about a month ago. They said the manager was going to reopen somewhere else but would not be selling firearms until their FFL came in. There is also Sportsmans Warehouse next to Costco off of I-19 and Orange Grove? They have excellent prices on guns, ammo and hunting/fishing supplies.
