I just received 1000 pulled surplus 30-06 tracer bullets, and they're a little stained with corrosion from age. Is it OK to tumble these in DRY walnut media to clean 'em up some? Or would that be a bad idea? I'm assuming tumbling regular pulled FMJ's would be fine, but I'm not sure about tracers. Don't know how sensitive they are, or if cleaning them is even necessary.

Thanks!

rondog,

I don't see anything wrong with it. The M25 bullets have a copper "cup" over the base of the bullet, and it takes alot of "heat" to ignite them, something that your tumbler cannot provide.

I might just try it then with a dozen or so, and see how well it works. They do indeed have a copper cup in the base. If the orange paint on the tips disappears, I can always re-dip them in some thinned Testor's model paint.
