Tuner,? about lugs

Why are the backside of lugs on my tanfoglios beveled?They're(the barrels)basically a hi power design.The lockup is very tight in both of them.Just wondered why they do it and 1911's don't,is it because of the cam type operation?

perhaps upper lug lockup is mostly lateral and perpendicular with the bore.

Upper lug engagement in a short recoil operated pistol is vertical...perpendicular to the bore...but lockup is horizontal.

I see my error, lockup is in line with movement/recoil.

Think the lugs are designed to wedge together for the purpose of controlling end shake? Or maybe to control the height of barrel and slide lug engagement? To center the firing pin on the primer?

I do know that on my witness',both exhibit some primer swipe-as have all the other tanfoglios I have seen.
