Specifically, the 1893 Turkish Mausers that were rebarreled to make them 8mm Mausers. I've heard that they aren't safe to shoot the hot Turkish mil-surp ammo because the bolt doesn't have the gas vent found on later model Mausers.

Does anyone know about Ecuadorian mil-surp 8mm? Is that as hot as the Turkish, or would it be mild enough to safely shoot in one of the rebarreled M93s?

I've been shooting corrosive turkish 8mm

works like a charm. no problems after at least 40 rounds through it.

of course though, I'm no expert on these rifles. If you dont feel safe shooting turkish milsurp, I would try to find something weaker.

I completely forgot that thread had delved so deeply into Turkish mil-surp ammo.

But I saw no mention whatsoever of Ecuadorian mil-surp.

Ecuadorian Milsurp isn't too hot, depending on headstamp year it has known to either double shot or a fail to fire all together, gives me a sticky bolt problem as well. Very dirty...

Personal experience with the ammo

Ecuadorian ammo required the bolt to be literally kicked open after firing, for me. The Yugoslavian surplus has been great for me, though. No bolt-sticking, relatively clean, and decently accurate.

Yeah the yugo stuff seems to be the best I've shot as well Marnoot. Easy bolt, only requires 4 or 5 patches, only thing I don't like is the orange on the primer, usually gets into the extractor groove and have a tought time getting it all out
