So I have a draco AK pistol that I'm going to SBR very soon. The other night I started kicking around the idea of full auto as well.

I know they have auto sears and what not for AR's, is there something similar for AK's? Will it work in a Draco pistol? Will it allow for select fire, or just safe/full auto?

And finally, what would the cost of the part be? And is it just another $200 stamp for full auto?

Thanks!

Others here know the laws better than me, but no new Full-auto firearms can be added to the registry after 1986. If you want to buy a (legal) full-auto weapon, it must be manufactured before 1986.

But if you do make it an SBR, then a Bumpski or slide fire stock might help you simulate full-auto.

I've used a Slide Fire SSAR-15 SBS on an AR, and it works very well. (edited with more/corrected info)

He's asking if they made Auto-Sears for AKs. The answer is "no", there were no auto-sears made for AKs pre-1986. There were auto-sears made in 1987 though... hooray...

AR-15 sears run $9000+.

So, no, you cannot make your Draco a full-auto.

Sorry for the loss of your dream. You could actually build up a full auto Draco, but the "cost" would need to include the $250K fine (and 10 years in Club Fed) for doing so if you were caught. The conversion is really quite easy and not expensive (except as noted above.) Do the SBR and get the SlideFire stock; I hear they work well.

On a side note, I had a Polish underfolder AK in Iraq that 'bump-fired' on me (much to my surprise) while I was training Iraqi soldiers. It had a FA position, and I thought I had mistakenly switched it to that mode. Just an exceptionally light trigger, as it turned out.

FWIW there is no such thing as an SBR machine gun. Once it's full auto, no need for the other stamp.

true on the full auto trumps SBR but if he got a sear that was made before 86 which i bet some are out there just hoarded away he would have to pay the tax for that item

If you go for bump-firing, do look at the Bumpski. it is more expensive, but I think it is more aesthetically pleasing than the SSAK-47 XRS (Slide Fire's AK stock). However, both seem to work very well.

In theory, you could do this by purchasing a legal pre-86 full auto AK and replacing the barrel and gas system with a short one. That's a very simple operation, as long as the headspace matches between your original trunnion/bolt and new short barrel. The paperwork requirement (once you own the AK to begin with) would just be informing ATF of a change in barrel length.

Well, you could get a Manufacturer's License (FFL Type 7) and make Full Auto Firearms for LEO/Government Agencies. THEN you could make all the full auto you want.

The cost for doing this is like $2250 a year in your manufacturer's License. I'm thinking about registering my Pole Barn as a Type 7 FFL......Someday!

Type 07 FFL $150 (3 years), $500 per year for your SOT2, $2,250 for ITAR, plus business licenses, etc.

Keep in mind that you need a legitimate business as well. It's not a hobby license. Also, once you do it, the company owns the item. If you ever give up your FFL, it must be transferred to another SOT, or destroyed

i have a draco. It has the under folder trunnion in it so converting it would be pretty easy. Have thought long and hard about it and im going to get my form to sbr it. There is really nothing else to do with it. Shooting from the hip spraying is only fun so long. Unless your a terrorist or new to guns. i like to aim and hit targets. If you actually take your time and aim the draco is really accurate i have found out to 50 yards on 20oz pop bottles. Not shot it farther but hardly ever miss when aiming it, so i am sure i will love it as a sbr. Little brother to my mak90 and yugo m70ab2.

i built a ar-15 pistol, and sbr'd it....it is nice to aim and shoot, hitting your target makes me feel warm and fuzzy all over

my last can took about 6 months, just don't get into a hurry to get you paperwork back, no news is good news, so just be patient, and your reason is
"any, and all legal purposes" don't be a collector, investor, it's all covered in one simple statement

On the Draco if you suppress it make sure to have the threads checked that they are concentric to the bore no one knows how much vodka was ingested the day before, of, or during its manufacture lol

If only it were just another 200 dollar stamp to manufacture a new MG. I envy that version of America in some parallel universe lol.

No need to cross dimensions, just invent a time machine instead. (Much simplier)

We could build new full-autos up until 1986. I remember gun rags publishing plans for home made STEN guns and such in the early 80's. You did have to get ATF approval on the paperwork, and pay the $200 tax, but that was it. (And had to be legal in your state).

I'd love to see a return to that.

This is what I always tell my friends:

We all say "God I wish I could go back to pre 86, I'd form1 every darn rifle I have". Well, stop looking backward and start looking forward! We are in a very similar situation, make the most out of it! In 10 years, do NOT be saying "remember how easy an cheap it was to buy a silencer (accepted term regardless what someone says) back in 2012? Heck, you could make SBR's out of kits you ordered online. Dang I wish I could go back to 2012".

I know we don't have it as good as those lucky bastidz 30yr ago, but by God (and the NRA) we've got it pretty darn good now and I for one don't plan on wasting it. If/when silencers are $4,000 each (like no one thought M11's would ever be) I wont be kicking myself in the butt. Seriously, play the hand we're holdin :)
