I managed to snag two GI M1 Carbines from a seller in a local trading paper. Negotiations got the deal down to this: Two former "club" issue G.I. M1 carbines, 1000 rds remanufactured ammo, 16 15-round mags, and 4 30-round mags. $1350 for all. Both carbines had nice, shiney bores, and insertion of a bullets showed they still had lots of life. Stocks were funky, but solid with few dents. One was an Inland, with Inland barrel, M2 stock and mag catch, otherwise looks to be all M1 parts . The other was a Saginaw SG with Inland barrel, M2 stock and mag catch, so both had been "updated" a bit by arsenals before being issued by DCM to a club. I had called a friend to see if he was interested in the Inland (I already had an Inland, and had decided to keep the Saginaw). He jumped on it, and met me to take posession of half of the goods. I later got a chance to shoot the Saginaw, and found the sight had been adjusted way right, so after a few five shot groups and some knob turning, I got it dead on at 25 yards. What a shooter! It appears to be outshooting my other carbine, hammering out some nice tight groups, one about the size of a quarter, shooting elbows over the picnic table. I'm happy as a lark (I guess we assume larks are happy most of the time). It was noted in another thread that CMP is getting low on nice carbines. I think we may be seeing more private sales of military guns as the number of WWII vets gets fewer, and estates sell off gun collections. Guns change hands, so those looking for nice Garands or Carbines might get rewarded like I did. Watch the newspapers, and put out some "feelers".
