1. How do you guys with 'clean' slides (USPs, Sigs, 1911s) clear malfunctions with one hand if you have sights like Novaks? I have Novaks on my Beretta but I use the safety to rack it.

2. How do you extract the magazine with one hand during a double feed? With your teef?

One hand entirely out of commission or unable to get to gun? Afraid to damage adjustable sights or the use of ramped sights makes belt-racking it impossible? Draw a BUG.

If that's what you have.
Worked on Way of the Gun, didn't it? (Not clearing a double feed, but pulling a sticky magazine.)

One way is to use the front sight and press against your heel... It's slower and more awkward than to use the rear sight... that's why I don't like Novak sights. I've never seen a different way that is faster or easier than just hooking the rear sight.
And yes, you can use your teeth to pull out a magazine if you need to. The other way is to lock you slide back, wedge the gun between your feet or behind your knee and use your hand to pull the mag.

USP is very simple. get a stuck mag, the bottom of the grip has two indents so you can more easily grab the mag with your fingers, or, lacking those, your teeth. to clear, sight on the heel of the boot, side of the holster or belt works just fine.

With the 1911, the mags are a bit harder to get with your teeth. for clearing malfunctions it all depends if you have a full legnth guide rod as to what you do.

Lock slide back and trap gun in back of knee joint, pull mag. Return to holster, pull mag. Throw at BG and run like sissy.

As far as racking, 1911 has no 'tarded guide rod. Stuff front of gun into nearest hard edge, slide racked. I've used this before to clear a ridiculous malfunction that I could not hand rack.

Dunno about USPs and Sigs, I'd figger something out. Glocks have plenty of square corners, easy to one hand.

I'm a LEO Firearms Instructor and one-handed malfunction drills is part of the qualification I have my shooters run through.

1) "Clean" rear sights are a problem, its easier to hook a squared rear sight on a duty belt, boot heel, anything, etc. For those shooter that have the clean sights, then they are instructed to try and use the rear sight. Getting in the middle of a gun battle and having to do this one-handed is not the time to find out your sights aren't the best for this drill.

Choose your sights wisely!!!

2) After locking the slide, the shooters are taught to hook the magazine on the duty belt, etc and rip the magazine out.

Again, if your going to want to do this drill, then you better be practicing it. If you can't do it (with your equipment) then you might want to change it.

All my LEO shooters are required to draw, fire and clear malfunctions one-handed (both strong and weak hand).

I've done it using my Sig P-220, Beretta 92FS and S&W 6906.

Malfunctions?

Malfunctions? malfunctions....umm..I don't understand.

Oh wait! I do seem to remember a malfunction. Back in '75 it was.
A magazine didn't drop free when I hit the button. It was old, and prolly
kinda bent. When I shook the gun it fell right out, though. I guess that
coulda been a problem if I was gettin' shot at, assumin' that the guy
who mighta been shootin' at me woulda still been on his feet...

I've seen people on smaller guns grab the slide in their hand, and press the grip against thier leg to rack the slide. Seems to work but requires you to lose and reestablish your grip.

I dont recommend this, but you can flip the slide using just the weight of it.
(more of a party trick) Pull the gun toward your armpit then try to push it away. You have to use a snapping motion.:scrutiny:

Yep, when I heard the slide rack I thought BS you just barely got it to move, but when we inspected it he chambered a round.:scrutiny:

Then we were all like BS your gun has a weak spring. This guy took one of our pistols and flipped it twice, chambers a round and we were amazed.

Yeah, I'm having trouble with that too...

But I guess I might have a Hi-Point someday... If I slip and hit my head or something. :uhoh: :D So maybe malf drills might be good to know.
