two questions

I currently own a Romanian Tokarev. I am very pleased with it, I love the trigger, it's pointable, and I am quite accurate with it. I know it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of some more modern handguns, but at the end of the day the point is can you effectively use whatever you have, not how expensive it is. I've put lots of rounds through this gun and practiced with it and I'm comfortable shooting it.

I am going to obtain my CCW within 2 months. My two questions are these:

1) Should I carry the TT33 or should I go out and buy a compact 9mm? I have a few that I would be interested in, but the TT33 is already fairly thin because of the single stack mag. It's a little long maybe (?) and a little heavy. If I should buy another handgun, any recommendations for a concealable 9mm (capacity not an issue) that is not a glock and that is under $400.

2) Any concealed carry holsters out there that will work with a Tokarev? I prefer the ones that attach to the waistband but are inside the pants on one's backside.

I like to keep a tokarev in the car because of the accuracy.... I love those guns.... but for concealed carry I have a keltec pf9 because of the light weight and small size.... I can conceal it very easily. the weight factor is very important in this part of the world because it is hot here.... very difficult to conceal and carry a heavy gun in shorts and a t shirt....

If the Tok is reliable with JHP ammo and you can shoot it well, I'd carry it. I've only seen a few Tok's and never fired one, but I think it may be close enough in size and profile to fit some leather from a 1911.

I'm not a gun snob. Owned one of most, carried revolvers, autos, small guns, large guns, a $125 Makarov and a $1200 Kimber and I've learned this - if it works and you're happy with it, just carry it and be happy.

Seems a fine choice for carry so long as YOU can conceal it. Sometimes those who carry forget that an appropriate wardrobe is in order and is often more practical than a smaller, lighter carry piece. If your ccw requires a parka to conceal and you reside in south Florida then a change in pistol would be appropriate.

Also, I've met numerous guys trying their best to conceal some cannon they strapped on so everyone at the local gun shop would know they were packing. In many other venues this would have caused a stir and potentially charges against the owner. In my home state if you carry concealed, it better be concealed, otherwise you may be accused of intimidation and or lose your permit.

Should you decide to go the new hardware route I would recommend taking the time to assess your needs then find a reliable gun to fit you. Shoot it until you are comfortable with it, then work it into your carry rotation. (there's no reason not to carry 2 if you can, just another option)

Finally, without a skeletal x-ray we have no idea what your frame can support and conceal. Among the small group of guys at work are guys from 450 lbs + to a slight 135 lbs and range in height from 6' 5" to 5' 5". I'm sure some could pack a Desert Eagle while others would have trouble with a Ruger LCR. Any suggestions here would be personal preference and truly a shot in the dark.

I'm 6' 6'' and weigh 185. Most of the concealment during the summer will be with jeans and a tshirt. Again I'm trying to put it in an inside the waistband holster. Any thoughts on the Taurus millenium series? I could get a very concealable 9mm for $330 at my local academy sports.

i wouldn't carry a tokarev because there's no safe way to carry it in condition 1 or a usable condition 2 (carrying a SA pistol with the hammer on half cock sucks).

It seems your Tokarev is a proven pistol.

Wouldn't make any sense to trust your life to a new unproven one, that you have less experience with.

You can buy a better made pistol of course, but I certainly wouldn't sell a reliable pistol like that just because I bought something else.

I wouldn't sell it...I'd keep it for sure and probably keep it in the glovebox.

Also, when it's in my glovebox now I keep it cocked with an empty chamber and the safety off. I just have to rack the slide and it's ready to go. The slide is also very easy to operate when the gun is already cocked.
