Two Shot .45 For A Purse gun

I just sold a Bond Arms Snake Slayer IV because it was way to heavy for the whole two shots it gave me. I shot both .410 3" mag and .45LC with little issue other than the weight. My Glock 27 with a full mag was about the same weight with way more fire power. Run from the derringer and run fast.

Yes.

Hey :
I have tried so many times. Women for some reason seem to {as a rule} have a much harder time with slides. All of them.

In a panic ? You and I would likely also...
I have only ever had to {Panic } once. It was a total rush and I can tell you now that all you thought you knew went out the window.

The wheel gun takes ALL that away. 5 shots are more than enough from a drivers seat. Or inside the house. It gives you "time"......

Purse carry of any full sized gun is rather hard to do . you already said her Purse was full as it is.
Add any full sized gun and it won't be long and she will not be having any fun carring it.

The action ? Don't matter , loaded or not. Any auto can screw up and they do . Holstered is a whole different story. But digging for a full sized or any gun from a purse or anything else is not that easy.

I have carried mine in a Camera bag for years. My 4 year old Grand daughter was the only one that has ever asked me 'What's in there " ?

Even unzipping a coat to get to a holster is not all that fast. A side pocket with your hand already in it is very fast .
A gun that will fit and not show in there works best. Mine fits in my work coat very well.

My hand in that pocket does not look wierd at all. But can be on that gun and ready . I travel about 30 plus states all the time. I must get out at times in places that I would rather not. My Model 85 in in my right hand coat pocket all the time. Nothing else ever goes in that pocket. That gun is completely concealed.

I tried using a holster , It was not the best way to carry when trucking .
If I were to encounter a problem , no one see's my hand in my pocket as Going for it. It was already there . There are many times I am approached on the road when Out of my truck. So far all has went OK.

Even in Hot weather a light Jacket is not all that wierd.
I have also slipped it in my Gloves at times , It does not show. No one suspects a gun inside of my work gloves.

There are women out there that can shoot well and take very good care of themselves. I know that , I have shot with some very good ones.
My statement was a {As a rule } ...

By the way , That Bond arms Kicks Lick a Mule.

Another thought .

Hey :
One more thing to consider. Most women would not encounter a GUN FIGHT.

They more so would encounter a not so nice guy that wants something he should not be asking for.
He may at some point demand it. A women faced with the decision to draw a gun and maybe use it ? You tell me , Is she going to "Panic" and shoot me or just show some force ?

Most men even bad guys assume she will Panic. 5 Shots ?

A really bad guy may already have his out and then do the demanding.
A surprise Bang from a coat pocket in the gut would likey stop most ordeals fast.

............pause....................reflect.

Thanks, LogGuy. I have a Colt 1911, but it's too heavy for her to carry around. My carry is a Hi power, but on my hip.

My wife LOVES her P3AT, and has no problem with the recoil. It has been 100% reliable. I sold mine (mine was great, too) because I had been lusting after a PF-9, which has also been 100%. I've had 1911s (Kimber Ultra Carry) and a PT-145 MilPro which were also good guns, but I carry OWB and some days I'll be carrying 20 or more hours, and the weight made my hip hurt. The only way I'd trade in my trusty PF-9 will be when KT finally makes a truly lightweight .45.

I say don't screw around. Get a full sized 9mm with a slide that she won't have any problem pulling back that gives her 18 rounds .

I have a 17 round S&W M&P, which I love. Shoots great, points great, decent recoil, reliable as heck.

It weighs a ton. I was told originally that if you are going to purse carry, that size wasnt really an issue....but it is. Esp since I also carry another full mag in the gun compartment. It hurts my shoulder to carry this purse in a purse designed for carry. And it's not the strap.

I am looking into something lighter and smaller...not extreme, but smaller. Then I can keep the M&P as a home defense gun.

The compact M&P is pretty darn heavy too. So I'm looking into the Sigs and Kahrs. (I wont buy cheap because I want 'reliable', so I have to save before I can buy).

Also, can anyone make recommendations on the 9mm Sigs? I'd still like at least 10 rounds if possible.

The only thing I don't like about this gun for her is that, like other non-1911s, this gun's thumb safety isn't reliable like a 1911's thumb safety, which means that she should not carry it floating around in her purse cocked and locked. My wife has a big purse full of all of her stuff too but this purse has a zipper on the outside on the end to a compartment that the pistol sits in. The only better, dependable option is a micro 1911 that she could keep chambered with the thumb safety on. Any other Glock or Springfield SD-type gun without a real safety like the 1911 thumb safety is vulnerable to going off if it can be bumped by any sort of shaped items floating around the purse's other compartments. .

Has she looked at the purses specifically designed to carry guns? They have special compartments and holsters and many have 'quick draw' ways to open them and access them fast. And they come in all sizes.

I keep nothing in that compartment except the M&P and extra mag. I practice drawing from it (but a woman can even fire without drawing....with practice and with the realization that with an auto....you need a round chambered and will probably only get one shot since the slides tend to be restricted.) I carry with a round chambered and thumb safety on.

I can post links to companies if you are interested...and Cornered Cat also has some listed. Searching THR will probably pull them up too.

No, we haven't looked at gun specific purses. Would appreciate links. Thanks.

I like the Beretta Px4 Storm subcompact. It's light as a feather and fits my hand like it was built for me. She should try it. The Kahr is also great but less shots and pricey for what you get I think.

I wish I could suggest the taurus .45 (I have the millenium). I wanted to like the gun so much because of the price, so I could suggest it to other people, but it is not good. It stovepipes even roundball and can't shoot into a 10" circle at 50 feet.

Any woman who wants to carry a gun in a purse should get a purse designed to carry a gun. There are several on the market. Most ladies like to shop for purses more than a new gun so you can make the wife a lot happier with a new purse than a new gun. With the right purse you can carry up to a full sized 1911 or Beretta 92 without any problem.

The best thing about a purse designed to carry a pistol is that the gun isn't in with a bunch of other stuff that can interfere with draw in case it is needed quickly.

How about a S&W M&P 9mm Compact? Sweet gun that's easy to shoot and fairly easy to carry. And it goes bang every time.

A KelTec PF-9 (if you get the right one) would work too, but there are definitely some that don't have the reliability that others do. Once you have a good one, you're good to go (and should hang onto it).

Only a real gun will suffice.

That being said, there are a lot of great choices in the "mouse gun" catagory.

THAT being said, any defensive gun (even a mouse gun) should be chambered in a defensive caliber.

I prefer .45 ACP, but will go down to the .380 ACP if, AND ONLY IF, concealability dictates the need for a pocket gun. The wife and I both have Sig P238's... and love them. Put 500 rds through it and you'll be up and running with what I would consider the premier .380 pocket pistol. Well worth the money.

We got rid of our Ruger LCP's because the Sig P238 blew them out of the water.

Also, you might consider trying to convince her to make the final wardrobe commitment. A purse is one of the worst place to CC a handgun, for many reasons. We got a Crossbreed holster for my wife and she's starting the transition herself.

No excuses. Better "frumpy" than dead, but it doesn't have to come to that.

Good luck!

Had my wife check out the cornered cat site and she's still determined to purse carry. She agrees though to look for a gun specfic purse. The jury is still out..............

it's like 2 derringers but better
Hehehehe!

...she's still determined to purse carry...
Well, to each their own. Just remind her to never put it down anywhere, for even one second, ever. She should also work on her anti-purse-snatching judo. How about some sub-2-second complex motor skill compilation drills for observe-orient-decide-act-dig-present-sight-engage... from common body positions, common threat types, at typical defensive ranges.

My wife no longer purse carries... ever... and she carries every single day.

Neener neener, my wife is more dangerous than your wife! Hahahaha!

Just trying to help!

i would actually advise for your wife not to carry in her purse, What is the first thing the BG is gonna grab ? Run by purse snatching is also a common practice for thugs, i understand that it is somewhat difficult for women to carry concealed with a holster due to more form fitting clothes they wear, but maybe a fanny pack would be a better carry option for a decent size pistol ? keltec p11 would be a good compromise between lightweight and decent stopping power & capacity

Purse snatchings are not usually lethal. If he gets a purse, bummer. Report the gun stolen.

It's when you combine situational awareness and see a problem, that a woman with a weapon in her purse can be better prepared.

And a fanny pack worn 'on the fanny' is less accessible than a purse. One worn up front is....ah...no.

I'm not happy with the purse carry compromise either, but so far it's what works best for me. I am working on holster carry too, but right now, my only pistol is really too big and heavy.

My biggest problem is that I cant carry at work...nor leave a gun in my parked car on company property (and property is so big that walking off campus at nite without the gun is also a crummy idea). And I run all my errands on the way home (I live in a rural area)...so that leaves me unarmed about 75% of the time :-( (I do carry a small blade)
