Gentlemen,
These are just two small files used by Ordnance to show what was Correct and what was not correct. I also have the written files issued by Ordnance showing the changes. I hope you enjoy.

For you new guys here is the setup on the new front end for the M1 Garand.

Remember, these upgrades were going on with the Production Line was running.

Warning, before you go to my sites lower your volume as the opening page contains a sound file which has a loading and firing of the M1 Garand. So if you're at work or home it may be wise to check your volume control.

eclancy,

what was the answer to the quiz about which parts could put an M1 out of action if they failed? I never saw it.

Khornet,
It was not a question just what you guys think. Here's what I think about it.
Gentlemen,
The extractor is in my opinion the weak part. If you look at the bolt all the parts are held in place by the extractor. If it fails the bolt will come apart. I am talking not only the extractor but also the extractor spring and plunger, the ejector and the ejector spring and plunger. Add to that the firing pin and your rifle is out of action. Unless you carry a spare bolt which is complete and has been headspaced to that rifle. The reason for picking the extractor is it has a 90 % cut. Brass is better than steel cases because the brass will give a little. I used a old trick for the springs and plungers in the bolt. I use my wifes nail polish which is red. It can help you if you are looking for them in the green grass or on the floor at home.
Thanks again
Clancy
ps sorry about not posting this but wanted your input first. Remember, I am only a dummy with the M1 Garand.

In more than 40 years of shooting Garands, military and civilian, I've never broken an extractor. I've had failures to extract from worn extractors, but no actual breakage.

But I never shot a match where I didn't have a complete set of spare bolt innards in a plastic box in my shooting stool.
