Anyone know Friedmans stand on 2A?

The train wreck that is Texas Education system needs help and I'm not sure Perry can bring it. That said, I couldn't bring myself to vote for an anti Liberal.

Great interview at the link.

SM: How do you feel about gun control? You wrote a column a while back about why you don’t hunt, didn’t you?

KF: I’m not anti-hunting, I just don’t hunt. As far as gun control goes, in Texas the conceal-and-carry law is working really well; it’s cut crime and I think George W. did good with that one. I don’t think he did well with the death penalty—I’m not as confident as he is that innocent men haven’t been killed.

Friedman hasn't filled out a TSRA questionaire, which is traditionally not a great sign. Despite saying he is not anti-hunting, some of his past columns would be hard to construe as anything but anti-hunting and Friedman is a big animal rights advocate.

Poster here claims Kinky stated the following on an Austin cable access show:

Out of his own mouth, Kinky said that he believes firearms used for sporting purposes are fine but "assault rifles" have no real use. He said that EVERY rifle should be limited to 5 rounds because if you cannot hit whatever wild game you are shooting at within 5 shots then you shouldn't be hunting.

There are a number of A-rated candidates (including Democrats) though if you don't like Perry. Strangely enough I don't believe Strayhorn has a grade, though I know TSRA endorsed her for Comptroller last time she ran.

I wouldn't assume that just because someone is running on the LP ticket that they are the best 2A candidate. Past Libertarian candidates for office in Texas have included John Gonzales of the Dallas Observer, who ran on the ticket for the sole purpose of writing a story for the Dallas Observer and mocked most of the policies and membership of the Texas LP in the story. So I wouldn't assume those candidates are particularly well-vetted or pro-2A without talking to them firsthand and checking up on their personal platform.

Not a Republican not endorsed.

It is interesting that Strayhhorn was good enough for the TSRA when she ran for Comptroller when she was a Republican but not good enough for them when she runs as an Independent for governor.

To be fair to TSRA though, the comptroller has pretty limited opportunity to affect RKBA in Texas. Some opportunity to be sure; but not a lot.

The Governor on the other hand gave TSRA everything they asked for during his term. So I can see where TSRA might decide they need to dance with who brought them.

With our weak Governor sytem the reps mean even more and the Lt. Governor is very important.
Badnarik is running for Congress in Dist 10, he will get my vote.

Well to hell with kinky then. Looks like it's Perry for me. I paid way too much money and did too much federal hoop jumping for that kinky jerkoff to limit my NFA guns to 5 rounds.

Yeah, I didnt have much hope that he would be pro 2A. His ideas on education make sense, but he seems to be running on a one or 2 topic platform. Not enough for me.

Unless I read it wrong, I counted 8 times where a Dem was endorsed over a Rep, additionally, I don't believe Strayhorn has filled out her TSRA questionnaire. That coupled with the fact that one of her largest backers is Walter Umphrey (big Ann Richards backer) makes me a bit nervous.

I have a lot of respect for TSRA. I'll have to print out their recommendations.

I do agree that Perry has been gun friendly. Given the weak nature of the Gov in Texas, I don't blame Perry for that mess. He only catches hell because it is hard for people to blame the legislature since most don't know who their representative is.

Overall the choices look pretty good, at least a god pro-gun candidate in each race. Are there any races where a pro-gun candidate needs a little help to beat an anti in the primary?

Also worth mentioning that Terry Keel was the legislator who gave us our new pro-gun travelling law. He is running for the Court of Criminal Appeals and is endorsed by TSRA. Always nice to have a few pro-gun judges...

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING, you can do in this election, is DO NOT VOTE ON THE LT GOVERNORS RACE, SKIP IT. make duhurst realize he was put there for a reason, we tried to get prop tax relief, and he actually made a public statement of ," well the different lobbies couldn't agree". unbelievable , the guy was put there by the grassroots, and this is the biggest problem we have with republicans, they do great when they are annon. but as soon as they hit an office that gets a lot of pub , or they go to Washington, they so much want to be in the right parties, and articles, they totally forget us. time to show him, that if he wants to win in the general, when his team counts the UNDERVOTES IN HIS CATEGORY, he might have to change his underwear, and get with the prgm.

I voted yesterday and I choose to vote in the Democrat primaries, as the local republican primaries didnt have too much competition in it, most of them were unoposed, while the local Democrat primaries had plenty of action.

I voted against the incumbant county comissioners, since this last year they gave themselves a nice fat payraise that they didnt deserve, and I also checked out the TSRA's voters guide to vote for the more pro-gun Democrats.

For LTG, I voted for Adrian DeLeon, I dont know anything about him and he probably wont win, but he was the only Democrat LTG candidate that is ranked on the TSRA guide and he gets an A.

The ballot also had two propositions

Proposition 1:
Do you support lifting millions of families above
the national poverty line by increasing the state
minimum wage above its current level of $5.15
per hour?

Proposition 2:
Do you support the restoration of Texans' full
rights to a trial by jury in civil cases?

I voted against the 1st one, raising the minimum wage does nothing to fight poverty and only hurts those that make more than minimum wage (mostly everyone).

I voted for the 2nd one. However I thought we already have a right to trial by jury in lawsuits? Is that not the case?

man that is weird, neither of those props were in the republican poll vote. dont tell me that the state gives up repub or dem freindly props , to each of their respective parties?

Propositions on primary voting aren't binding on the state, they are just a way of establishing the state party platform. You notice the incredibly biased language they use to prod voters in the direction they want them to go?

His ideas on education make sense, but he seems to be running on a one or 2 topic platform. Not enough for me.
<sigh> But I really was hoping he'd branch out and become more of a viable candidate. Even if I didn't vote for him, I really wanted to see how well he could add a level of discourse into the usual bickering...
