I have a question regarding employers allowing time off to employees to vote in a caucus.
My employer states: "COMPANY NAME HERE encourages you to participate in general elections....if you are a registered voter and do not have sufficient time to vote in any election, COMPANY NAME HERE will grant you two hours of paid leave to vote...
MN LAW:
Employee Voting Leave in Minnesota
Minnesota employees are entitled to take time off to vote during the morning of a regularly scheduled state primary or general election, of an election to fill a vacancy in the U.S. Congress or in the office of state senator or state representative or of a presidential primary, unless the election is conducted by mail, without penalty.
Paid time off rules. Time off to vote is time off without deduction from wages.
Employer Penalty for Violation. Fine up to $700 and/or jail up to 90 days.
I work 2nd shift and had planned on voting before my shift began tommorow, but found out the polls are only open from 6:30 to 8p.m. I obviously cannot take time off in the morning to vote. Also is a caucus covered as a general or primary election?
Mods: Please don't lock this. I feel it is gun related as I feel my choice for the next presidential candidate will effect our gun rights.
