Vigilante justice?

HOUSTON (KHOU) -- For weeks, several residents at the Glen Willow apartments in southwest Houston say they've been victims of serious crimes.

"He took his gun out and put it on her head," said one resident.

Another woman, who is pregnant, says she was robbed and push to the ground.

On another day, another woman claims she was assaulted too.

It scared her.

"Very much. She was afraid for her daughter. She was with her at the time," said apartment manager Anna Gutierrez.

Every time a crime happens here, Gutierrez says they call police.

"I've been calling them everyday… constantly."

But she says nothing is done.

So last week, when one man was robbed and nearly beaten to death, Gutierrez says residents took matters into their own hands.

They began to stay up late, waiting for the suspects to return.

And when the suspects came back, the gates were closed behind them.

"By the time the suspects realized it, they had quite a lot of people around them," said Gutierrez.

Approximately 60, many with guns.

Witnesses say the suspects were begging for their lives.

They also say the suspects were assaulted and their car was vandalized.

"We're not going to wait unit we find another dead body on property before the police take action and do what they're supposed to do… their job," said resident Victor Aguado.

"We're not proud of it. It wasn't the most right thing to do. But when we're tired of it and you have no other choice, what can you do," said Gutierrez.

Both suspects were arrested.

One was charged with robbery.

The other was released..

And that upsets them even more.

The apartment complex has filed a complaint against the Houston police department that says officers weren't doing their jobs.

Internal Affairs is looking into the allegation.

Now if only we could get more communities to do this, America would be a safer place to live in. Mark one down for the good guys.

I love it! In keeping with THR standards, I won't say what I think went through their little reptilian brains right then. But you know. :D

I saw this on the new as they were interviewing some of the residents. Thye said that they called the cops dozens of times without ever getting a response.

I would have loved to see those slimebags pissing their pants as a mob set in on them.

Well, of course - they were too busy arresting K-Mart shoppers in the parking lot.

"Attention, K-Mart shoppers: you are under arrest. Please report to the flashing blue (and red) light" :D

They should be proud. It was the right thing to do. There was, indeed, nothing else to do—unless, of course, everyone in the apartment complex wanted to be a victim.

As far as I'm concerned, fighting back isn't just an intrinsic human right, but a moral obligation.

That's the news mediahcrities for ya! Take a case of rational community defense/citizen's arrest and call it Vigilatism!

Vigilantism? How many perps were hanged? Shot? Bodily parts removed? Deadly violence performed on the well-deserving? Nada. Zip. Zilch.

What is it, with these cretinous creatures who believe the solution to crime is to roll over like a six-month old pup and whine? Gotta give'em credit for consistency, though--I've noticed their whininess for over forty years' worth of paying a very disgusted attention...

Good for them, but the perps got out of that situation way too easy. Somebody should have brought a blanket to the party....

I think Standing Wolf nailed it.
If the perps return they need to be a bit more thorogh the next time.
