.308 is fine for piggies.

A .308Win will do just fine for oinkers. I'd look for something in the 165gr-180gr department and controlled expansion. As far as the action length, the .308, when limited to factory loadings, is the twin brother to the .30-06. The '06 will edge out the .308 when handloaded or when pushing a bullet over about 185gr. In the "normal" loads, 150-168gr, they are nearly identical.

Scubie,
You talking about Catskill? They released several big hogs, and there are reportedly three or four cougars up there now, too. Please be careful up there, and bring enough gun for a predator.

You need a reason to buy a new gun?

No... My wife needs a reason for me to buy a new gun.. Marriage 101. :eek:

Question::

I assume there's no 5 load limit when you are going piggy hunting?? Like if I went with my M1A, I can take a full 10 round mag?

In Texas, they aint game animals--so bring a full auto if'n you got it. No hunting license either? (ck all your hunting info with fish and game, of course...internet is fun for info, but legal facts is best done with the "experts"--the ones that can write the fines.)

Come to think of it, in Texas there's no capacity limit on anything except migratory birds, I believe.

To answer the original question, Yes, a 308 is plenty for Texas hogs, but it can actually be done with a lot less. My son and I primarily use our Marlin 336SS 30-30's for deer and hogs and have had no problems.
