I just bought this square butt 4" S&W 34 kit gun. It has the target trigger, target hammer and I think the target grips.

I would like to put a Tyler T Grip #1 on it (shiny black).

Question, will the Tyler T grip fit onto these target grips?

I have T grips on my SW17 and SW12 but they have regular small S&W grips.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I don't have any square butt J-Frames around here for reference (surprisingly), but if I compare the 642 I have here with your 34, the forward grip area looks the same. The only difference seems to be in the back strap area, which won't matter for the t-grip. They do make a T-grip for pre-1955 J frames though, but I've never seen one to say what the difference might be. Will a #1 t-grip fit? Probably. Will it fit perfectly? Possibly. Can you sell it for $50-$60 on ebay if it doesn't? Absolutely.

The stocks on the pictured Smith are the standard service stocks, not the oversize 'J' frame targets. Here is a pic of 'J' frame targets.

The T-grip would not be able to be placed on the gun with factory target stocks because they completely cover the front strap on the frame as shown in this pic.

Since the pictured pistol does not have a pinned barrel, indicating manufacture well after 1955, it is safe to say the No.1 T-grip will work fine.

A Tyler T-Grip adapter should work fine with your Model 34 stocks. I have nearly the exact same gun except mine has the round butt configuration. I bought a Hogue finger groove grip for it, made from Goncalo Alves. It fit perfectly on the gun and looks and feels great.

Just be certain that when you place the order with Tyler that you specify that it is for a j-frame revolver with square butt grips. It will fit perfectly.

Tyler T/s work fine for me!

Doesn't matter on the J frame, they just make one T grip for RB and SB. In the K frame there is a difference, but not for the J.
