I just acquired a Tyler T grip adaptor (my first) for my old S&W K frame round butt. It is a #3R , which the Tyler site says is for the aforementioned K frame round butt.

It is my impression that the upper , curved portion of the T Grip is supposed to fit slightly either side of the frame just behind the trigger guard. In my case the edges of the T Grip butt up against the outer edges of the frame , not allowing the casting to seat and conform to the revolver frame and grip. I hope this description makes sense.

Out of curiosity I tried the T Grip on an old J frame and it seemed to conform nicely. I did check that the casting is in fact marked 3R on the inside.

Please look at the images and let me know if my impression as to the proper fit is correct , and if the interface between the T Grip and my K Frame is normal. Just doesn't seem right ...

I suppose mismarked is a possibility. What I do know is : I am not confident in shooting the old 1902 with that fit.

I should have mentioned _

The K frame in question is a model of 1902. Is there any possibility that the frame of the 1902 differs slightly from that of the model of 1905 , which became the wildly successful Military and Police/ model 10?

Yea!

There ya go!!

They don't make T-Grips for that.

No reason you can't do a little grinding with a Dremel sanding drum and fit them to the gun though.

That must be it because every T-Grip adapter I have had matched the contour of the grip frame very well.

RC - "a little grinding with a Dremel" - , Don't think that will work There seems to be insufficient width to work with. The outside dia. of the T Grip is just barely wider than the frame of the revolver.

Bannokburn - Yes , that is the fit I was expecting. The upper part of the Tyler grip embraces the gun frame slightly , correct?

Doesn't look like q good fit. If you got it from the Tyler site, I would call them and tell them it's not fitting properly. They are nice people and I'm sure they will make it right.

Yes it does and I have used it on similar J frame size Rossi revolvers with the same close fit.

Well , the best laid plans...

T Grip in question was NOS from a good vendor who has agreed to take it back and test fit it on model 10s in stock. I compared the frame of my model of 1902 to that of my 1905 and cannot see any difference in the area where the Tyler is supposed to match up. I am stumped.

So it goes.
