I wanted to begin a thread about the Tyler T-grips.

A good many of the guns that left the factories of Colt, Smith & Wesson and the early Ruger Six series (Service/Speed/Security) had fairly minimal wood grips. Whole generations of young shooters are now rediscovering the value of these old revolvers. At the same time they are discovering that gap in the grip that can bang up our knuckles, or keep us from having that really solid purchase on the gun.

New wood grips are relatively expensive. And just like folks did 30 years ago, we're struggling with paying many hour's worth of our wages for a nice, hand-filling wood grip. I don't like rubber grips on a carry gun. They grab at clothing and I can't stand it.

The solution then was to use the stock grips, and add a Tyler T. Many of the new value-priced revolvers come with some sort of rubber grip now, and T-grips aren't an option with those. But if you're like me, and look for those older Colts, Smiths, and Rugers they'll very often come with those old wood stocks on them. Some mail-order enterprizes even pull off nice grips to sell separately and put on a cheap set of those old wood grips to sell with the gun. Those old grips are still in the parts bins at gun shows everywhere.

The Tyler T isn't being made in the numbers they once were. The market isn't as big as it used to be. But if you need a set, Bud and Gayle at P&B Firearms do stock them. I ordered 3 from them last week, and they literally shipped out within hours of my Pay-pal transfer.

No, I'm not getting a dime or any other form of consideration for the plug. I just thought I'd begin a thread about a fix many have forgotten about, and some never knew once existed. If you want a set for your gun, these folks might have one in stock.

I just got one from the factory for a Model 60. Took about four weeks, not really a problem, but it's good to know about P&B. I've had an Uncle Mike's boot grip on this gun for years, but it just feels better with the T-grip. Looks better too.

I have started to discover them too since I got a deal on some Elk grips for a S&W 28/HP. They were S&W magna style and I need a bit more to hold onto with a .357 so I ordered one. I liked it so much I now have them for all my Smiths. They conceal better with the magnas and a T grip than the rubber or wood target stocks do and don't get in the way of the speedloaders. I also have one for my 48 but don't have pix yet.

I know there was a thread running for quite awhile with many pics of T Gripped revolvers but I cannot find it anymore so......it seems it is time for another one.

I didn't care for them back in the '70s. Now that I'm older, I see their virtue. You really don't add bulk like you would do if you bought bigger grips. Second, the concealability of the gun isn't compromised either.

BullfrogKen: Have you seen the old hard rubber ones from back in the day, its a name that starts with M....was it Mearshom ? Or something similar to that ?

An envelope with 4 of them showed up at my house last week but I've been too busy to put them on. I'll be pairing them with Barami Hip-Grips.

I put them on all my double actioins. The S&W's are gone but the Colts all have stayed. :)

Here's a 19 w/ a Pachmyr adapter as well.

How do you all have your T-Grips installed? Do you leave the brass part that sits under the grip straight, or do you wrap it around the grip frame?

I left mine straight as that's how they were installed on the gun.

Joe Security, it was Mershon. I used to have some too. Pachmayer made them too for a while as well. They both worked well but the plastic seemed to cheapen the look of the revolver.

I have 4 of the Tyler T's. They are on my K22, K38, model 34, and 1905 HE. I switch the model 34's back and fourth on my model 36 Chief.

I love my T-Tyler grip. What I really like about it is the how it creates a "triangle" of grip (front is narrower than the back). The feel keeps the gun from twisting under recoil.

It also minimizes the size of the grip to enhance concealment. Some of my custom grips are wider and add length.

I want to like them, I really do!

Unfortunately, they push my knuckles into the rear of the trigger guard and the grip still doesn't fill out into the web of my hand. Sure is a shame 'cause I love the look they give an old revolver.

This, plus as an added bonus they look cool.

As for the Ruger Sixes like WEG's, I can see where larger hands might be challenging with that platform, as the grip frame on the Sixes are notably shorter than those on S&W K Frames. And though my knuckle still does touch the back of the trigger gaurd a bit, I've not had any issues. The T-Grips for me add enough control that the trigger gaurd doesn't slap my knuckles any longer.

Here's a post I did on another forum about what is going on with the T-Grips I ordered:

I ordered T-grips for my model 36 back on June 4th, check hit the bank on June 11th. I called after 10 weeks, around the middle of August. I was told by Brian that they should ship anytime, that they had the polished ones in stock. Well, I called again September 3rd. I was told by Brian that my order had been misplaced as thinking it had already shipped. He was able to locate it, and told me I should receive it by the 9th of September. Well here it is the 14th and still no grips.

I tried to call yesterday on the 13th and it turns out they were not taking any calls from the 6th to 13th at 1:00 PM. Well, I tried numnerous times after 1 and still get the same recording. I get the same recording this morning. Plus they have no email(need to move into the 21st century) so phone is the only method of contact. Unless someone on here lives in OKC and go over there.

Must be nice for a company well we have too much business so we are just going to shut down for a few days. I doubt I will ever do business with them again. Right now I feel as if I have been ripped off. I my case it was only about $35, but just the idea.

Just a update on the company.

Turns out that the guy I spoke with, Brian, had a heart attack. I finally got through to day and spoke with the son(didn't get his name). He said that they have alot of orders just sitting there. He said he refund my money, but I said I would take either grips or money.

I expressed concern for his dad about the heart attack.
