..I just picked up a TZ75 today ( likely a 1980's production model ) and it has no slide safety nor a decocker. Is this common for the model?

I think a slide safety is a safety lever mounted on the slide.. ala Beretta 92

No decocker or manual safety? The CZ75(standard model) it is based on has no decocker but it does have a frame mounted manual safety, like the 1911. Are you sure there is no safety on the gun? Perhaps it is a Double Action Only version?

Nope, neither one. It's single/double action (reminds me of the GP-35 Hi-Power) without a safety. The only controls are the slide stop, mag release, hammer, and trigger.

any photos..sounds interesting..all the models I have seen have either something on the frame or slide

Sounds like a model with the slide safety/decocker that has had the slide replaced with one intended for the frame safety. Replacement slides were readily available and could be purchased in any number of configurations. Since Tanfoglio slides are not numbered to the frame, any combination done after purchase is possible.

Just got in from work; another detail: slide is ported with four holes. Could it be some sort of IPSC special?

* And pic; there's nothing but slide. There's no space for the decock/safety on the rear of the slide. I've searched the internet & found no reference to a TZ model without a safety.
