Wonder if this surge in demand will have an effect on ammo prices? :uhoh:

Wonder how your taxpayer bought ammo will get expended? A bullet has no brain. The Hamas dudes in the Gaza are burning lots of 7.62x39, it comes from somewhere. If I thought that we could control it's usage against bad guys I would feel much better.
Good news is that once production increases to meet demand we might see more ammo available down the road.

So not only do they waste my tax money on this pointless nonsense, but they also drive the price of ammo ridiculously high... :banghead:

What is a sponge round?

Holy cow, they have an atomic weasel launcher! I thought the Hague treaty outlawed those things!

I'm just wondering how much of this will get shot back at our troops. It wouldn't be the first time, after all.

I used to work at a box factory. We made a RIDICULOUS AMOUNT of double walled ammo boxes that held 1000 rounds a piece of 5.56 ammo for a company called "Alliance Lake City, Small" that's the name that showed up at my box press anyhow.

The boxes were small and easy to make (single color label - black) so I used to love to see these orders. They were long runs... around 5000 boxes at a time, and they came up every few weeks or so on my shift...don't know how often the other TWO shifts ran those boxes. so... 5000 boxes * 1000 rds ea = 5,000,000 rds of 5.56 that they've got boxes for at least.

"Alliance Lake City, Small" would save money if they would have asked to have more than a few pallets of these boxes shipped at a time, so I'm guessing that they were producing around 5 million rounds every few weeks and using up the boxes.

7.62x39, it explains why CheaperThanDirt has raised their prices on Wolf Military Classic by 30 dollars in the last month on a case of 1000 rds.

Sponge round is M1006 is called a ''non-lethal'' (I know spare me). It is actually made out of foam rubber sponge with knock down power at 10-50 meters.

Liquid Ferret is a commercial brand of CS.

It looks like someone got their columns mixed up on the contract somewhere with the Mossberg shot guns in there.

Sucks for all of us that picked up SKS, AK, mosins and 9mms because 45 and 223/308 prices were going through the roof. The contract does allow surplus though, what do you think the chances are that they are going to use some of that mountain of chinese 7.62x39 that we can't buy:scrutiny:

I'm surprised though, that it lists 40mm rounds, then says it's for a Mossberg 590.
The projectile is 40 mm (1 3/5”) long? Or are these like the old tear gas grenades that used to fit on the end of shotguns, like a WW II rifle grenade? I don't know, I'm just asking...

On another issue, why are the variety of “less-lethal” rounds for Afghanistan, and the small variety of large quantities of “more-lethal” rounds for Iraq? Can we assume it is believed things are settling down in Afghanistan? And it is believed it is not likely to settle down in Iraq any time soon (at least not until after 92,000,000 rounds of 7.62 X 39)? Of course we don’t know how much ammo the Afghanistan government has left over from previous governments. I get the impression the most (all) of the ammo from the Hussein government is now in the hands of the insurgents.

That's about enough 7.62x39mm to give every American gun owner one round.

One in eight would get 2.

Just trying to put the number into perspective.

I'm not against the war but after it's over I figure we are going to get great prices on 9mm, 7.62x51, 7.62x39 and 5.56. I'm ready. Last cases I bought of .223 Federal NATO 55gr white box was $150/1000 with $12 shipping. IMI SS109 in 30 rd boxes was $199/1200. Now the same ammo is about $350. This wasn't in the dark ages either. We're talking '04 or '05. Joe

You actually think...

they will sell the surplus to us? How long have you watched our gubment? It will be destroyed so that it cannot harm anyone....

we aren't just paying for their ammo, we are paying for every single thing going on in their country.

since the beginning of the war, they are still not generating any oil nor revenue of their own. our tax dollars buy their food, fuel, toilet paper, roads, houses, military, water...everything. most of that money that has been "spent" is not accounted for.

We buy them ammo so corrupt Iraqi military soldiers can sell it to insurgents. Complete BS. If the Iraqis need ammo they should buy it themselves.
