It's not a problem....it's an opportunity. Time to buy some Dillon reloaders and hire illegals to run them. (heehee)

"U.S. Government wants to buy 92,000,000 rounds of 7.62 X 39"

I wonder if they'll get a volume discount.

Well, they've found a way to deny us ammo for our most desired guns--buy it all up and make it too expensive on the civi market. Ask anyone who has an AR what the ammo situation is with .223 and 5.56 (as if!).

:cuss:

We ordered a mere 25,000 rounds of Federal .40cal FMJ in November. It still hasn't come in yet. In fairness to the vendor, they did say it'd be a 4 to 6 month delay. At the time, I was told it's because Federal (or whoever they buy their ammo from) was swamped with government contracts.

Luckily, we had enough 5.56 for a while, because the delay for that was longer. The small amount of shotgun ammo we bought came in very fast, so I guess shotguns aren't being used too much over there.

I guess it brings up the big question.

How many large ammo manufacturing plants are there in the States?

I heard something a few years back that there were two huge plants that simply handled government ammo contracts, but they closed one of them due to budget cuts.

That really is not that much ammo for a war. There are 500,000 - 750,000 men under arms in Iraq on all sides.

When you consider a soldier needs at least 300 rounds for training you can see how it can quickly become not enough. Price wise we are only talking a drop in the bucket for the war. Maybe $25 million, but you guys want to get all upset because now it may affect your fun time.

Wow, just when 7.62x39 production had caught up with panicked US weekend
shooters along comes a web posted bid request without a signed bid or dedicated
production run to create another round of panicked US weekend shooters.

Quick! Everyone go out and buy a case right now! Omigosh?! Backordered!

Who do I have to shoot in order for the US to buy me a couple of thousand rounds?

Jefferson

I think they did get the columns mixed up on that less lethal order.
There is a 40mm sponge round for grenade launchers and there is a 37mm sponge round for use in tear gas launchers and there is a 12 guage sponge round available for the shotguns.

Unless they are using some sort of cup launcher attached to the muzzle of the shotguns??,,,,,,

This shopping list is actually quite a small order for Military procurement, stuff is usually orderd in 100 million round lots with each one million round lot being tested and inspected for acceptance before the next one million round lot is authorized.

I am going to invent some 7.62x39mm for celebratory purposes. The label will say "to be shot into the air during weddings, celebrations or protests only".

It will be the exactly the same as existing 7.62 except the box will be different, with festive colors.

I expect to sell tons of it to the guhmint. They will deem it suitable for civilian sale in the U.S. because of it's harmlessness. The self-appointed ammo experts will turn their noses up at it. But I will be rich in no time.

That's really not alot, especially for an active war zone. Plus, I would think the gov't got it at a screaming deal too.

<<Plus 40,000,000 rounds of 9 mm. And the ammo is not even for us.

Bad for us in the short run as prices are driven up, but good for us in the long run. Increased production capacity now creates scarecity now, demand increases, price increases.

Uncertain future, as production capacity increases, demand will stabilize. If terrorism remains high (very real possibility!) demand will probably increase.

However, if support war decreases, demand will decrease. The increased manufacture capacity will create surplusses that will drive down prices.
