I just received a Uberti 1858 New Army (New from one of the leading sellers) and I have several issues.

1) The cylinder is marred at the stop on all stops as if the timing is not right. Seems like a new revolver should be new

2) When I handled a Pietta at Calebas, at half-cock, the cylinder would click when rotated as it went past each chamber. This revolver cylinder spins freely with no stop or sound as it rotates.

3) the plastic bag the revolver comes in and revolver had very little oil on it (None on or in the plastic bag) which (to me) looks like it might be a return that was re-packaged and sent back out.

Any feedback would be appreciated I don't think I'm being too picky, but I'm a novice and thought I'd ask.

If that's the case, the previous owner took the hand out of it. With no hand the bolt tore the cylinder up.

It sounds like a broken or missing hand spring at the least. Call them to get the particulars on a return and ship it back with a letter of explanation and details of your phone conversation. Ubertis are well made guns. This one sounds messed with.

1858 New Army

Hellgate, Jim-K, Thanks for the feedback. I'm hesitant to take it apart and see if the hand is missing or just screwed up. Even on full cock, the cylinder can be turned (with a little force). I'm calling for the return this AM

As an aside, all the new Uberti's and Pietta's I have seen on the shelf and online in video's of "new-in-the-box" revolvers, have had red warning tags attached to the trigger guard. This one did not have the tag. The Walker I just picked up from Cabelas last week did. One more detail leading me to believe it was a return that was re-packaged

You don't need to take the revolver apart to check the 'hand'. Take the cylinder out which is pretty easy to do with a Remington and look to see if there is a 'hand' and if there is, just push on it to see if there is any resistance. If there isn't any resistance then the hand spring is busted or removed. Either way I would send it back because as Jim said someone figured out a way to get a spare part for free.

Problem With Uberti 1858

I just pulled the cylinder out before boxing it up. Seem like the hand is broken and floating around in the recess it fits in. With the cylinder marred on all chamber stops like it is, it does not seem like shipping damage.

Return authorization granted, sending back for a replacement.

Out of curiosity does this "leading seller" have a single location and is located in the south??

If so I have had 2 similar incidents. one with a revolver and one with a display case, both were obvious returns. They were both replaced with no problem. Unfortunately the attitude seemed to be like returns are no problem, someone else will take it.

Saga Over

I received a new Uberti 1858 today. It looks good. I'll have more time to check it out tonight. The distributor make good when a problem occurred. (I was somehow sent a re-packaged return that was broke)

Now onto more fun activities with my new 1858!
