Well I got my new Uberti 1858 today. After pulling the hammer back a few times and pulling the trigger to ride it back forward, the timing is way off. Whenever I pull the hammer back to full cock, it's in between nipples. When I riding the hammer forward, I didn't notice the problem right away and the hammer scarred the cylinder. I removed the cylinder 3 times and reinstalled it, but it still has the same problem. I'm going to call Uberti tomorrow and see what they think the problem is, and what the odds are of getting the scarred cylinder refinished, or replaced. Anybody had this problem? Am I being too picky about the scarred cylinder?

I had the same thing happen to me this past summer. I fixed it by tightening the hand spring screw. Try fooling around with different amounts of torque on the handspring screw. This is what was causing my problem and it sounds like your problems are exactly the same as my problem was.

That worked

I removed the trigger guard and the screw bolt spring screw was loose. Works perfect now. I guess I'll have to live with the scarred cylinder. One thing I learned with these pistols is you can't be picky about scratches on them like my higher priced pistols and rifles. I'm very picky with my firearms, but these black powder revolvers are impossible to keep looking new.

Unfortunately we got to you too late... :(

You can reduce, but not eliminate the cylinder scaring by (1) polishing the top of the cylinder bolt where it rubs on the cylinder. Go easy with this.

Slightly taper the side of the limb on the bot & trigger spring to slightly weaken it so that it doesn't press the bolt against the cylinder so hard.

You can keep these pistols looking good ...keep a bottle of cold blueing handy ...do some touch up after the warm soapy water cleaning . I shoot mine often and touch them up about once a month the cylinder scratch line is there but you don`t see it so much with the cold blueing in it .
