uberti 58 rem - oops

Bought a nearly perfect used uberti 58 remm at a local gun store. After some messing around with it at home I wondered why the cylinder was hard to take out and harder to put in and noticed that the hand was always out. so after taking it apart and removing an ungodly amount of grease.(??) I tried to gently adjust the hand spring and heard the click of doom. but the spring still seemed very sturdily fastened to the hand and I was then able to adjust the spring. What action creates stress on the hand spring that might cause it to pop off? im a little worried about it but it seems fine, the cylinder doesnt skip chambers when cocking and wont turn back plus it awsomley spins for a long time at half cock. I should probably look for a new one but if this one will be fine ill keep it cause it works. don't know where to order them online- searched, but came up empty. local shops dont have them.

dixie gun works. You would probably have to replace the hand and spring they are usially sold in one piece.

Since the spring is still on the hand and it's working and it didn't make a jump for freedom then I seriously suspect you just flicked it a bit and then had a coronary at the sound and thought that it had broken or jumped out. I've never had a spring "break" and not let me know right away. Similarly on small parts if something goes "crack in the night" then it generally tells you by being in more than one piece in your hand. In your case since it's still there and still working I'd bet a box o' donuts that it's fine. A spare isn't a bad idea but at this point it may be years before you need it.

I'm going to look at some thin flat spring stock I have and see it's the right width and thickness to make replacements. If so, I'm going to cut it up into a BUNCH of pieces (each long enough to make 2 springs w/some extra).
Maybe I should look at making and selling replacements.

I made mine out of the old flat "Bobby Pin" if you all remember these. Drove
out the old spring with a very thin watch screwdriver, put the new spring in
the slot in the hand and squezzed it tight. No problems.

kwhi43 thats the best idea ive heard all month but the hand is bent down on the spring pretty flat , ill see what i can do with it.

I also noticed that the hand was deformed a bit. Looked like the result of the previous owner slamming the cylinder the wrong way, and that the spring was not in what shouldve been its origanl/fully funcional position.
orderd a new hand asembly and spring from VTI just to be safe.
I bought this gun a while back and havent had time to play with it but im loving how easy it is to take apart, especially removing the mainspring comared to the 51 navy.
