I just recieve the Rem58 from Cabela but I ran into a few problem with it. First the hammer screw is backing out after repeated cocking of the hammer but I think clear nail polish will take care that problem. Then the cylinder is not indexing properly and the cylinder notch is not hold by the bolt after the hammer in full cock . I strip the revolver down and discover that the hand spring is very weak and easily broke off .Now cabela has excellent customer service and I will have no problem return and exchange this revolver for the new one but my concern is about the hand spring .It appear to me that Peitta did not attempt to heat treat this part so it will be easily broke off or lost its tension (mine is last about 3 hours ) .Anyone here know the alternative source for part ? I order the part from Dixie already for my still working other Rem 58 but I would like to know other place that create good quality and properly heat treat hand and spring for the Remington 58.Should I assume the one that broke is just one defect not the entire Pietta remington 58 are defect? I have other one for about 3 years now and nothing ever go wrong with it .

This is exactly what happened to my Pietta '58 Remington. I tried to fix it using a replacement parts kit that I ordered from Cabelas. That repaired it, but due to the lack of interchangeability, the revolver was (still is!) out of time. I'd send it back to Cabelas. The whole episode sort of soured me on the Italian revolver repros.

Thank you for the information. I talk to Cabela customer service and he will sent the replacement part for me .Dixie gunwork customer service also informed me that the part that they carried will work.At least cabela has very excellent return policy so I can sent them back and get the one that work.

FWIW, I have examined a number of Pietta pistols and they were of uniformly poor quality. I have not checked Cabella's catalog, but if they have no other make of better quality, I would return the gun for a refund and look for a better make.

Jim I believe Cabela only carry Pietta make Remington58 except the Cattle man carbine .I will give it another shot before go to Uberti (I have a few spare cylinder made by Pietta and it will not fit the Uberti).

I discussed the Pietta line of revolvers with some Cowboy Action Shooters. They consider the Pietta revolvers to be a "kit gun" as they must do all kinds of work to it before it is really functional.

I could not do the gunsmithing that these guys do at home, I would have to take it to a gunsmith. If you have the tools and are skilled at gunsmithing, then the Pietta would be a good buy. But for most people its better to just save money for awhile and buy from Uberti.

Tommy Gunn .I plan to get the Uberti millenium revolver from Dixie gun work for my birthday. In the mean time I will try to fix this Pietta revolver with the part that they sent me .Pietta parts are a lot cheaper than uberti part and I might keep this one for my gunsmithing learning project.
