Hi all, After shooting my dad's Webley, I don't like poking one shot at a time into or out of my Ruger Bisley, so I'm wondering if anyone owns a top break Uberti revolver? how is the quality? Good Bad or Ugly? My Ruger is 45colt and I just shoot standard out of the box loads, I assume the Uberti's are made for standard loads?

Uberti quality is generally fine, and as long as you stick to .45 Colt ammunition that is loaded to "cowboy levels" you shouldn't have any problems because the gun is intended to be used in cowboy action shooting style competition. For the record the Webley design is stronger, but that shouldn't be an issue here.

Its not a +P round and it is a better self-defense round than the traditional lead flat nose of the cowboy ammo.

Exactly why is Hornaday Leverlution super expensive ammo better?
A .45 Colt 250 Cowboy load @ 750 fps will certainly tickle your innards no less than a .455 Webley 265 lead @ 650 fps and I don't remember anybody complaining about the Webley .455s lack of stopping power!

I thought because it is basically a JHP with a polymer tip that would split the hollow point open under the slower velocities achieved in a revolver platform.

LEVERevolution. Keyword: Lever. They're designed more for lever-action rifles than revolvers. The polymer tip is designed to allay any fears of chain firing in the magazine tube when a stout load is fired. I think the selling point is that you can get "more accurate" fmj-like ballistics with a hp wound channel. But this is a bit far off-topic from the OP.
nitro, I don't have a top-break Uberti, but I have one of their SAA-clones and it's been pretty good. No problems strength-wise. I suggest getting your hands on a few examples and really looking them over in the shop. Maybe shoot them before buying if you can. Or at least find a friend with a similar model so you have something to compare to.
So what exactly is cowboy action loads?? compared to out of the box standard power ammo? If I have to shoot .45 at under 800fps thats rediculous. Some ppl at the range here load so light for just plinking that the bullet tumbles and tears the target paper at 25yrds!

Be aware that unlike the Webley you liked so much, all the S&W Schofield replaca's are Single-Action only.
That means you have to thumb cock the hammer manually each shot.
Just pulling the trigger without cocking it first results in nothing happening.

Yes, I know there SA, my ruger is. All I would like to know is, if I can shoot standard out-of-the-box standard loads in it?? I either shoot, Winchester Super-X Centerfire Pistol Ammunition X45CP2, 45 Long Colt, Lead Round Nose, 255 GR, 860 fps. or Remington Centerfire Pistol Cartridges R45C, 45 Long Colt, Lead Round Nose, 250 GR, 860 fps. are these considered Cowboy Action? are they suitable for a Top break??
Well I had the chance to look at one up close at a gun show yesterday. What a dissapointment, nice looking nice feeling but the top latch was a very poor design lightly sprung and not very secure, No comparison to the webly or the 5shot topbreak that I have. I can certainly see why It would not handle hot loading of 45colt and why some say that once worn they fly open. If I found a used one I would machine my own latch more along the webly design.

Please do not forget that the following things have been changed in the reproductions;
better steel then the originals
larger dimensions in the critical areas
better strength
however as these were made in europe, by a company that is required to meet european standards developed by the european proofing houses, the cylinders are safe for standard pressure 45 colt ammo.

A lot of Webleys were cut to take the .45acp. Depending on the Mk number they are unsafe with .45acp and should only be shot with black powder loads.
If you like the top break S&W's don't waist your money on a Uberti, get the real deal. Not that much more and you get a trouble free revolver that handles any ammo you want to use within reason.
